No kidding.
Showing Missouri/Kansas in D.C.
"I' m not from England but my money still comes in pounds"
That was exactly what I meant.
Right down to the DC part.

I'm taking my chances with the online feed.
I imagine it won’t be blacked out.

You could always do like bobo
and watch the first UT-Florida game again. I hope they have the same outcome.
It'd feel like cheating.
Besides, I don’t think that game is online anyway.
by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 1:30 PM EST up reply actions
I'm supposed to get it in the Roanoke market
But I’m suspicious. Right now it’s Louisville and Marquette’s baby blue unis.
I've got that as well.
It was a good first half, but Louisville came out strong in the 2nd half to open it up.
By the way, reason #1 I want a 6: playing a 3-seed Marquette in the 2nd round.

This time
he didn’t “spill something” on it. Anyone else remember the Georgetown / Louisville game from last year?

No, what's the story?

He had the KFC outfit on in the first half
Then came out of the locker room in a dark suit after halftime. He told ESPN/CBS/whomever that he spilled something on it in the locker room.
This was after:
Georgetown went into the locker room up 10 or something.

Sort of like Pearl
in his first game at FL. He started in a light suit and gradually changed into a dark suit?

Quick question:
Does anybody want a game thread for the Lady Vols this evening? I won’t be there (curling is Sunday nights, and tonight may be the most important matchup this season), but I’d be happy to set one up if anybody wants it. Of course, “anybody” most specifically means ’snail and wvvol, who are the other usuals. But let me know.
If there’s not enough interest, I’ll save myself the time and effort. I have plenty else to do.
My vote.
Don’t worry about it if you’re not going to be there.
I think I’m getting a cold so by this evening I’ll probably be hammered drunk on Nyquil.
Sounds good, then.
Best of luck to them anyhow!
(And to be honest, I’d probably go to the game if it weren’t for curling.)
I wouldn't worry about it.
I mean, it’ll be me ranting about how Kelley Cain should get every single shot for 40 posts anyway.

Pretty quiet there

Quick question:
If the Marquette game runs late, will they delay the start of the UT game for TV purposes?
And if so, will they discount all the extra commercials they’re getting in right now?
Nice 3 to start for Maze

It's boxscore watching time.
I’m not sure who to hate more: CBS for designing an online player that doesn’t work (psst, might want to get that fixed in the next two weeks), or Comcast for not making this game available locally.
by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:10 PM EST up reply actions
Good point.
I keep on forgetting I have another browser.
by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:15 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, that worked.
Thanks! Since I’m watching the other game on CBS, I’m pretty sure we’re not blacked out.
by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:15 PM EST up reply actions
I'm sure you've done this
But just in case you haven’t — have you tried a different browser?

I had the same problem yesterday - both with Firefox and IE.
Then again, I thought it was a local blackout at the time; the archived vids worked fine.
FWIW.
Ouch.
I suspect our RPI is getting blistered because the other SEC East leaders can’t win.

I didn't want to sound incredulous
Ye of little faith doth not believeth teh Bobo’s predictionathions.
That means we're due for a, what 0-for9 stretch?

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:27 PM EST up reply actions
He was joking around on the bench at the last dead ball
…so I think he’s just resting while we’re up 10
Calathes with one now.
If he gets two, it’ll be worth it, but one foul at this point isn’t a big deal at all.
So here's a thought:
With a Tennessee win, can we hose Florida out of the NCAA’s? That might be worth it by itself.
Crap
Now I’m getting a local weather alert break-in. It snows here all the time. We all know what to do. BACK TO THE GAME!

I keep seeing pushes by Florida on those rebounds
They aren’t calling them on Tennessee, of course, because Tennessee isn’t going for offensive rebounds
We're not recognizing the bounce.
They’re positioned really well, which is why they’re getting as many boards as they are. They’re not particularly quality offensive boards, but knowing your own rims is a big deal.
by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:40 PM EST up reply actions
True.
I also think that rebounds off 3’s are harder to read because the ball comes in with so much more energy.
After the Williams basket,
did you see how fast he ran back to the defensive end?
The boy’s got some wheels.
It's a lot easier to run fast

But Calathes burned him pretty badly.

Question on the 3-seconds-in-the-paint rule:
How much of the players needs to be in the paint for it to be called?
You need:
Part of your body outside the paint during that time if you don’t have the ball. If you have the ball, it doesn’t make any difference. I’ve seen it coached where you just step outside once every couple of seconds.
by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:50 PM EST up reply actions
It's one foot out.
You don’t need your entire body, just part of it.

Heh!
I’ll have to remember that this fall when prognosticating…
============
lawvol: Gate 21 - Life, the Universe, & the Bounce of the Ball
We're 7 of 9 from three...
And our two best shooters, Hopson and Tatum, haven’t even hit one yet. In fact, Scotty has no points…and we’re up a dozen.
Half Time Thoughts
Williams is having himself a game, Would like to see Hopson getting involved more, Can we keep shooting this well from outside? Will Billy Donavan realize that he needs to pressure the ball more in the half court? Roll players are contributing very well, Tabb/Tatum/Woolridge
Maybe Hopson is contributing.
As hot as BW (and the entire inside game) is, I like the plan to focus on it first. Of course, if UF adjusts their defense inward, it’ll be time for Hopson to prove he’s developing like we hope.
You're right
Scotty has been playing well on defense and has grabbed a few boards, I was thinking offensively. He may find some opportunities in the 2nd half if Florida changes there scheme on defense.
Will Donovan
- realize Bruce Pearl is his Pimp
- Begin looking at NIT regional seeding
- Give me one of the puppies if he ever becomes a mommy?
On Florida's offensive boards:
It should be an easy fix. Florida’s rims bounce pretty strongly off misses, so I think the key is to recognize that. Typically, the coaching method is to have guys within 2-3 feet of the rim to get misses – but if you notice, Florida sets up at 4-5 feet. They know their rims. If everyone takes a half-step back I imagine we’ll give up 4-6 easy points on people cutting off the edge, but there will be a severe reduction in second possessions.
We don't even have the most impressive first half performance on CBS in the 2 PM slot.
Kansas up 45-19(!) on Mizzou.
poor CBS.
Who do they tune out when one game is well out of hand?
I feel for them and their completely worthless online feed. I really do.
Did I mention worthless?
More fascinating notes from the halftime show:
They re-ran one of the standard bumpers on the main CBS feed while the halftime feed is on.

In Charleston, SC, they cancelled school for two days on a FORECAST of snow.
they did that something like 2 days early. By the time those days came, it was in the ’60s. Those had to be the roughest snow days ever…

There's like an inch here right now
But I live waaaaaaaay deep in the mountains, it snows like 3-6 inches here a lot. I’m sure it’s different in downtown Roanoke.
When I lived in Blount County, one of the local guys on the Knoxville feeds during a t-storm warning goes “If you live in Blount County, GET DOWN!”
