And I'm on time-delay again.

Stupid CBS giving us high-quality matchups instead of SEC play.

No kidding.

Showing Missouri/Kansas in D.C.

You could always do like bobo

and watch the first UT-Florida game again. I hope they have the same outcome.

by wvvol on Mar 1, 2009 1:27 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It'd feel like cheating.

Besides, I don’t think that game is online anyway.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 1:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm supposed to get it in the Roanoke market

But I’m suspicious. Right now it’s Louisville and Marquette’s baby blue unis.

by Will on Mar 1, 2009 1:21 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I've got that as well.

It was a good first half, but Louisville came out strong in the 2nd half to open it up.

By the way, reason #1 I want a 6: playing a 3-seed Marquette in the 2nd round.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 1:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Pitino

has his Colonel Sanders outfit on to balance out the baby blue

by Will on Mar 1, 2009 1:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This time

he didn’t “spill something” on it. Anyone else remember the Georgetown / Louisville game from last year?

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 1:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He had the KFC outfit on in the first half

Then came out of the locker room in a dark suit after halftime. He told ESPN/CBS/whomever that he spilled something on it in the locker room.

by Will on Mar 1, 2009 1:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This was after:

Georgetown went into the locker room up 10 or something.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 1:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Sort of like Pearl

in his first game at FL. He started in a light suit and gradually changed into a dark suit?

Quick question:

Does anybody want a game thread for the Lady Vols this evening? I won’t be there (curling is Sunday nights, and tonight may be the most important matchup this season), but I’d be happy to set one up if anybody wants it. Of course, “anybody” most specifically means ’snail and wvvol, who are the other usuals. But let me know.

If there’s not enough interest, I’ll save myself the time and effort. I have plenty else to do.

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 1:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

My vote.

Don’t worry about it if you’re not going to be there.

I think I’m getting a cold so by this evening I’ll probably be hammered drunk on Nyquil.

by wvvol on Mar 1, 2009 1:59 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Sounds good, then.

Best of luck to them anyhow!

(And to be honest, I’d probably go to the game if it weren’t for curling.)

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn't worry about it.

I mean, it’ll be me ranting about how Kelley Cain should get every single shot for 40 posts anyway.

Pretty quiet there

for a four point game with 2:22 left between Nos. 6 and 8

We don't know what top 10 teams look like.

We’re not sure what to expect.

And honestly, it kind of turned ugly at about the 10 minute mark.

GREAT START!!!

9:20 left in the first we’re up 9.

I love it when we can hit 3 pointers :D

Quick question:

If the Marquette game runs late, will they delay the start of the UT game for TV purposes?

And if so, will they discount all the extra commercials they’re getting in right now?

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 1:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Calm down, boys.

Play intense, but don’t get jittery.

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:07 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It's boxscore watching time.

I’m not sure who to hate more: CBS for designing an online player that doesn’t work (psst, might want to get that fixed in the next two weeks), or Comcast for not making this game available locally.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 2:10 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

you using firefox?

If so, try opening it in IE.

by bobo_the_vol on Mar 1, 2009 2:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Good point.

I keep on forgetting I have another browser.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 2:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, that worked.

Thanks! Since I’m watching the other game on CBS, I’m pretty sure we’re not blacked out.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 2:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm sure you've done this

But just in case you haven’t — have you tried a different browser?

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel on Mar 1, 2009 2:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I had the same problem yesterday - both with Firefox and IE.

Then again, I thought it was a local blackout at the time; the archived vids worked fine.

FWIW.

Especially the last 5 or so minutes.

by wvvol on Mar 1, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I keep seeing pushes by Florida on those rebounds

They aren’t calling them on Tennessee, of course, because Tennessee isn’t going for offensive rebounds

by bobo_the_vol on Mar 1, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

We're not recognizing the bounce.

They’re positioned really well, which is why they’re getting as many boards as they are. They’re not particularly quality offensive boards, but knowing your own rims is a big deal.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 2:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

True.

I also think that rebounds off 3’s are harder to read because the ball comes in with so much more energy.

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

After the Williams basket,

did you see how fast he ran back to the defensive end?

The boy’s got some wheels.

Question on the 3-seconds-in-the-paint rule:

How much of the players needs to be in the paint for it to be called?

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:48 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

You need:

Part of your body outside the paint during that time if you don’t have the ball. If you have the ball, it doesn’t make any difference. I’ve seen it coached where you just step outside once every couple of seconds.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 2:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

WOOOOO!

PACE:

90-66.

(Repeat gag, I know, but I like the numbers too much to pass it up.)

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

We're 7 of 9 from three...

And our two best shooters, Hopson and Tatum, haven’t even hit one yet. In fact, Scotty has no points…and we’re up a dozen.

by Will on Mar 1, 2009 2:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Half Time Thoughts

Williams is having himself a game, Would like to see Hopson getting involved more, Can we keep shooting this well from outside? Will Billy Donavan realize that he needs to pressure the ball more in the half court? Roll players are contributing very well, Tabb/Tatum/Woolridge

by Getoffmyvols on Mar 1, 2009 2:52 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Maybe Hopson is contributing.

As hot as BW (and the entire inside game) is, I like the plan to focus on it first. Of course, if UF adjusts their defense inward, it’ll be time for Hopson to prove he’s developing like we hope.

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You're right

Scotty has been playing well on defense and has grabbed a few boards, I was thinking offensively. He may find some opportunities in the 2nd half if Florida changes there scheme on defense.

by Getoffmyvols on Mar 1, 2009 2:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

They need to anticipate the change.

No way can Florida let the interior run free like this.

by Getoffmyvols on Mar 1, 2009 2:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

On Florida's offensive boards:

It should be an easy fix. Florida’s rims bounce pretty strongly off misses, so I think the key is to recognize that. Typically, the coaching method is to have guys within 2-3 feet of the rim to get misses – but if you notice, Florida sets up at 4-5 feet. They know their rims. If everyone takes a half-step back I imagine we’ll give up 4-6 easy points on people cutting off the edge, but there will be a severe reduction in second possessions.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 2:53 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

poor CBS.

Who do they tune out when one game is well out of hand?

I feel for them and their completely worthless online feed. I really do.

Might not airball any FTs and also be able to power in those layups.

by wvvol on Mar 1, 2009 3:35 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

If he could end up looking like Jodie Meeks and if they can take that elbow out of that shot, he’ll be fantastic.

It's a good blueprint we're working

Hot from 3 in the first half on the opposite end, now running more plays and such playing offense on the same end as the bench

Heyyyyyy

CBS finally switched over! I guess Missouri stopped twitching.

PACE

76-69.

For the first time, UT is at (or ahead) of Florida’s total game pace.

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 3:47 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That is a fabulous stat

I love that.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel on Mar 1, 2009 3:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Problem is,

Florida’s recent pace is faster than that.

I’d like to see UT above 72 before starting to rely on that.

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 3:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Excel.

Just whipped up a little ditty for it. It’s just a linear extrapolation based on the score and the game clock.

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 3:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

heh

Simple “linear extrapolation.” Yeah.

More time off the clock

Out-of-bounds means another possession. But one of these shots has to go in.

Fresh shotclock.

Except Woolridge

Everyone who’s played for us has at least 6 points. Tyler/Chism 15 each

LOL

I like how Parsons put his hands up after running into Smith

by rblakeh on Mar 1, 2009 3:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

5-9 fron tthe line.

Florida’s 6-11, so it’s not the end of the world. Neither team is shooting well from there.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 3:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think a large part of UF's run is BW with 4 fouls.

He was absolutely huge for us before then.

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 4:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I walked by him earlier this week

He really has dropped a lot of weight. Compared to how he looked when I had a health class with him, he’s like a freakin’ string bean now.

The guys do it too.

The Lady Vols often slap the floor when preparing to play defense. I just saw one of the guys do it.

Wowwwwwwwwwwww

That is a closeout to end all closeouts!

1 means they need to shoot again.

Rebounds:

they’re kind of a big deal.

by Graysnail on Mar 1, 2009 4:03 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That charge was BS on the TiVo

For no other reason than Werner not knowing how to take a charge like a man…it took him about 3 seconds to fall down

Better end this quick!

by Will on Mar 1, 2009 4:06 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

I’m worried he may give an emotional speech to the bball team.

He will push them like no one has ever seen a football player push a basketball team!

If Bruce wins the SEC East with this team...

Does the (unwarranted) criticism finally die?

by rblakeh on Mar 1, 2009 4:08 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Sure better.

Question: if we beat SC are we 100% assured the east crown?

by bobo_the_vol on Mar 1, 2009 4:09 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

right.

If we lost to Alabama, Kentucky could still peg us on the tiebreaker.

by Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

No

Because Kentucky would still beat us in a tiebreaker if we lost to Alabama and they won out. In a three-way-tie between us, UK and SC (if we beat SC and lost to Bama), we win on division record…I think

by Will on Mar 1, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hey, all:

It’s been a great time. Be sure to cheer on the Lady Vols tonight. It’s Senior Night for Fuller and may be a decisive game in tourney seeding. They need to avoid the 7-10 range badly.

Either way, this weekend was the best possible outcome for the Vols.

Losses by UK, USC and UF coupled with a UT win.

It’s in our hands now.

But I still prefer having the onus on us than on somebody else.
