And I'm on time-delay again.

Stupid CBS giving us high-quality matchups instead of SEC play.

No kidding.

Showing Missouri/Kansas in D.C.

You could always do like bobo

and watch the first UT-Florida game again. I hope they have the same outcome.

by wvvol on Mar 1, 2009 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

It'd feel like cheating.

Besides, I don’t think that game is online anyway.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

I'm supposed to get it in the Roanoke market

But I’m suspicious. Right now it’s Louisville and Marquette’s baby blue unis.

by Will Shelton on Mar 1, 2009 1:21 PM EST reply actions

I've got that as well.

It was a good first half, but Louisville came out strong in the 2nd half to open it up.

By the way, reason #1 I want a 6: playing a 3-seed Marquette in the 2nd round.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

Pitino

has his Colonel Sanders outfit on to balance out the baby blue

by Will Shelton on Mar 1, 2009 1:45 PM EST up reply actions

This time

he didn’t “spill something” on it. Anyone else remember the Georgetown / Louisville game from last year?

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 1:50 PM EST up reply actions

He had the KFC outfit on in the first half

Then came out of the locker room in a dark suit after halftime. He told ESPN/CBS/whomever that he spilled something on it in the locker room.

by Will Shelton on Mar 1, 2009 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

This was after:

Georgetown went into the locker room up 10 or something.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 1:55 PM EST up reply actions

Sort of like Pearl

in his first game at FL. He started in a light suit and gradually changed into a dark suit?

Quick question:

Does anybody want a game thread for the Lady Vols this evening? I won’t be there (curling is Sunday nights, and tonight may be the most important matchup this season), but I’d be happy to set one up if anybody wants it. Of course, “anybody” most specifically means ’snail and wvvol, who are the other usuals. But let me know.

If there’s not enough interest, I’ll save myself the time and effort. I have plenty else to do.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 1:51 PM EST reply actions

My vote.

Don’t worry about it if you’re not going to be there.

I think I’m getting a cold so by this evening I’ll probably be hammered drunk on Nyquil.

by wvvol on Mar 1, 2009 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

Sounds good, then.

Best of luck to them anyhow!

(And to be honest, I’d probably go to the game if it weren’t for curling.)

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:00 PM EST up reply actions

I wouldn't worry about it.

I mean, it’ll be me ranting about how Kelley Cain should get every single shot for 40 posts anyway.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

Pretty quiet there

for a four point game with 2:22 left between Nos. 6 and 8

We don't know what top 10 teams look like.

We’re not sure what to expect.

And honestly, it kind of turned ugly at about the 10 minute mark.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

GREAT START!!!

9:20 left in the first we’re up 9.

I love it when we can hit 3 pointers :D

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

Quick question:

If the Marquette game runs late, will they delay the start of the UT game for TV purposes?

And if so, will they discount all the extra commercials they’re getting in right now?

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 1:59 PM EST reply actions

Calm down, boys.

Play intense, but don’t get jittery.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:07 PM EST reply actions

It's boxscore watching time.

I’m not sure who to hate more: CBS for designing an online player that doesn’t work (psst, might want to get that fixed in the next two weeks), or Comcast for not making this game available locally.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

Good point.

I keep on forgetting I have another browser.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:15 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, that worked.

Thanks! Since I’m watching the other game on CBS, I’m pretty sure we’re not blacked out.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:15 PM EST up reply actions

I'm sure you've done this

But just in case you haven’t — have you tried a different browser?

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Mar 1, 2009 2:13 PM EST up reply actions

I had the same problem yesterday - both with Firefox and IE.

Then again, I thought it was a local blackout at the time; the archived vids worked fine.

FWIW.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:15 PM EST up reply actions

This

is the pace we want to play at.

by Will Shelton on Mar 1, 2009 2:10 PM EST reply actions

Okay, Chism

Bad Dunk, fun timeout. Good boy. Kinda.

by bobo_the_vol on Mar 1, 2009 2:10 PM EST reply actions

Ouch.

I suspect our RPI is getting blistered because the other SEC East leaders can’t win.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:16 PM EST up reply actions

Man, JP.

Great drive and then follow it up with that turnaround shot?

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:18 PM EST reply actions

Williams!

Steal and drive and score! 100 pounds! Woo!

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Mar 1, 2009 2:19 PM EST reply actions

Best part was the control.

He didn’t go for the monster dunk. Instead, he made sure he got the points.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:19 PM EST up reply actions

HAHAHA that has to be embarassing

by goldballs on Mar 1, 2009 2:19 PM EST reply actions

Awesome passing.

They’re in pretty good sync right now. Keep it up!

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:20 PM EST reply actions

*laughing manically*

What on earth? Who is this team?

Is Chris Lofton back?

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:24 PM EST reply actions

1/4 of the game down.

Hmmm…..maybe the Pacemaker should get pulled out.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:24 PM EST reply actions

Hey, bobo:

You were wrong. We’re up 13. :)

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:25 PM EST reply actions

I didn't want to sound incredulous

Ye of little faith doth not believeth teh Bobo’s predictionathions.

by bobo_the_vol on Mar 1, 2009 2:26 PM EST up reply actions

The thing is:

Florida’s not playing badly. We’re just obscene right now.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:28 PM EST reply actions

Calathes with one now.

If he gets two, it’ll be worth it, but one foul at this point isn’t a big deal at all.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:32 PM EST reply actions

They are.

Especially the last 5 or so minutes.

by wvvol on Mar 1, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

I keep seeing pushes by Florida on those rebounds

They aren’t calling them on Tennessee, of course, because Tennessee isn’t going for offensive rebounds

by bobo_the_vol on Mar 1, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

We're not recognizing the bounce.

They’re positioned really well, which is why they’re getting as many boards as they are. They’re not particularly quality offensive boards, but knowing your own rims is a big deal.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

True.

I also think that rebounds off 3’s are harder to read because the ball comes in with so much more energy.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

PACE:

90-66.

(Repeat gag, I know, but I like the numbers too much to pass it up.)

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:50 PM EST reply actions

We're 7 of 9 from three...

And our two best shooters, Hopson and Tatum, haven’t even hit one yet. In fact, Scotty has no points…and we’re up a dozen.

by Will Shelton on Mar 1, 2009 2:51 PM EST reply actions

Half Time Thoughts

Williams is having himself a game, Would like to see Hopson getting involved more, Can we keep shooting this well from outside? Will Billy Donavan realize that he needs to pressure the ball more in the half court? Roll players are contributing very well, Tabb/Tatum/Woolridge

by Getoffmyvols on Mar 1, 2009 2:52 PM EST reply actions

Maybe Hopson is contributing.

As hot as BW (and the entire inside game) is, I like the plan to focus on it first. Of course, if UF adjusts their defense inward, it’ll be time for Hopson to prove he’s developing like we hope.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:53 PM EST up reply actions

You're right

Scotty has been playing well on defense and has grabbed a few boards, I was thinking offensively. He may find some opportunities in the 2nd half if Florida changes there scheme on defense.

by Getoffmyvols on Mar 1, 2009 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

They need to anticipate the change.

No way can Florida let the interior run free like this.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

Will Donovan
  • realize Bruce Pearl is his Pimp
  • Begin looking at NIT regional seeding
  • Give me one of the puppies if he ever becomes a mommy?

by bobo_the_vol on Mar 1, 2009 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

- He already knows.
- The AD has started looking at hotel arrangements.
- lol

by Getoffmyvols on Mar 1, 2009 2:58 PM EST up reply actions

On Florida's offensive boards:

It should be an easy fix. Florida’s rims bounce pretty strongly off misses, so I think the key is to recognize that. Typically, the coaching method is to have guys within 2-3 feet of the rim to get misses – but if you notice, Florida sets up at 4-5 feet. They know their rims. If everyone takes a half-step back I imagine we’ll give up 4-6 easy points on people cutting off the edge, but there will be a severe reduction in second possessions.

by Chris Pendley on Mar 1, 2009 2:53 PM EST reply actions

Woo-hoo!

The second-chance points are the big thing to fix.

Free throws; o.O

Florida is a fragile team

If we really put it on them in the next few minutes, we’re in great shape

by Will Shelton on Mar 1, 2009 3:09 PM EST reply actions

The offensive motion is increasing.

They’re not standing around as much. Good. Wear Florida down on D; slow them down when they have the ball.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 3:12 PM EST reply actions

what is with the power T on the lowes commercial?

by goldballs on Mar 1, 2009 3:14 PM EST reply actions

Dan Bonner is crazy.

Florida has missed a bunch of shots from inside today.

by wvvol on Mar 1, 2009 3:17 PM EST reply actions

Can we go the whole game without one? And still win big?

I hope so.

Another weather break in.

We’d better not be up only 5 when the game comes back again

by Will Shelton on Mar 1, 2009 3:20 PM EST reply actions

What are you getting?

A couple of inches or something?

I remember living down in FL when the headlines were TIPS TO SURVIVE THE EXTREME COLD. It was down to like 30 or something at night.

In Charleston, SC, they cancelled school for two days on a FORECAST of snow.

they did that something like 2 days early. By the time those days came, it was in the ’60s. Those had to be the roughest snow days ever

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 3:25 PM EST up reply actions

There's like an inch here right now

But I live waaaaaaaay deep in the mountains, it snows like 3-6 inches here a lot. I’m sure it’s different in downtown Roanoke.

When I lived in Blount County, one of the local guys on the Knoxville feeds during a t-storm warning goes “If you live in Blount County, GET DOWN!”

by Will Shelton on Mar 1, 2009 3:25 PM EST up reply actions

Funny. I lived next door to Rick Katzfey and gave him hard time all of the time. Apparently, forecasting the weather in the mountains of East TN is tough.

Interesting fact I heard for the first time this week

The Coke formula is actually secured in a SunTrust bank vault in ATL somewhere. They never patented it and instead elected to just keep it secret.

This may be common knowledge, but I’d never heard it before.

Rocky Top Talk

Patents expire. Trade secrets don’t, if you can maintain the secret.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 3:33 PM EST up reply actions

Scotty needs to hit the weight room in the offseason

Might not airball any FTs and also be able to power in those layups.

right.

If we lost to Alabama, Kentucky could still peg us on the tiebreaker.

by David Hooper on Mar 1, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

No

Because Kentucky would still beat us in a tiebreaker if we lost to Alabama and they won out. In a three-way-tie between us, UK and SC (if we beat SC and lost to Bama), we win on division record…I think
