Man, it got quiet in here.

Lost internet at the bar (thanks, wireless card), but I’m around for the afternoon games, if anyone else is.

Hah i thought you were saying RTT was quiet after the loss

Western KY is now my rooting team for the rest of the tournament

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually, I kind of was.

I mean, first halves aren’t that interesting (although all the ’dogs are keeping it close from what I can tell).

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think

..it’s a “if you don’t have anything nice to say” situation.

No need to pile on.

Yeah, there was a lot of frustration.

I didn’t particularly like the last play, but it wasn’t a bad season. I’d be curious to see what the results would be if we posted that “do you think the season was a disappointment” poll again.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tennessee is in a good position as a program if winning the SEC East and making the tournament is considered a bad year.

But right now it’s still a little raw. The lack of consistency this year was maddening.

Agreed on the consistency.

I just don’t think we’re in the position to consider this a “bad year” yet, you know?

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well cant say I blame em, after the loss I’m not in much of a mood to watch other teams play either. need some time to let it sink in before moving on hah

Is any body seeing Est TN State?

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 3:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

whats the score?

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Impressive

but can they keep it up in the 2nd? So far all of the 1st seeds have had close games in their first halves but really put the heat on the 2nd and no ones been able to catch up

now with less meyton panning.

I think UConn tanked them early.

IIRC UNC did the same thing …. but you’ve spooked me. I’m gonna go check ESPN.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was:

~10 point UNC lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half. UTC got to 15 points and then stagnated, which let UConn finish the game in force.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Only down 1 at the half

Been a great game thus far.

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Strike that. They took away the shot at the buzzer.

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Underdogs

Always and ever.

I have UNC winning it, though.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I got Memphis and Pitt in the final.

Rooting for: Always the Cinderella when UT is not in it.

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 3:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

They were one shot away from going to OT - or winning it outright - at the end.

They were up by more than a couple of possessions at times in the second half. It’s not like they got blown out.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know, I just feel we had missed oppurtunities and refused to get in the paint

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 4:00 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

We might be beating dead horses with this

but I have to agree with you. Yes, we did not get blown out, and OSU did not play a great game either and thats probably why it was as close as it was. It looked like an extension of the Miss St game to me.

Oh well it was a good year, I hope they all stay next year, bc we’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I wasn't tracking OSU's defense that closely.

If they were playing a collapsing zone, it’s tough to get inside. I only saw a few plays that I thought were completely wasted, though.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well I wasn't either, i was probably making a gross generalization

but we couldn’t score well in the paint, and relegated ourselves to outside the arc. It just felt like the same type of game with about the same intensity.

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know, but I'm curious about this.

I’ve been trying to make an effort to understand defense and defensive positioning in the last couple of years, so I’m curious as to what it means and how you should react to it.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not the person to ask, I'm learning with ya

Basketball is new for us, and my 4 years in KY haven’t helped me too much yet (but I can’t stand talking to UK fans about Bball).

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Same place here

I think we have been trying to play with speed and our size and technique are off.

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think this was a prototypical Pearl team.

That may explain part of the confusion and inconsistency. I think Will described it better than I could, though.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree. Every Pearl team we know had a Lofton and this team did not. I think he is hoping Hopson will be that though

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Though If you head over to A Sea of Blue - the UK blog

and read their comments, Im sure you could pick up a lot. Every time im over there reading their post game writeups, I learn a lot. Some of them have an amazingly expansive knowledge of bball

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It is quite amazing. We are still trying to become a two sport school. We’d talk cicles around them for football.

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

33 Three point attempts

Granted we made 11 but that is still alot and it plays into our FG %. We missed way too many easy lay ups as well.

But yes, next year, we should be both SEC champs and a top 25 team all year.

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

11 for 33 is pretty good

thats about the season avg 3pt%. But it was way too many attempts anyhow

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think the break-even 3-pt% is aronud 35%.

That would involve the relative value of threes compared to twos, the generally improved two-point percentage compared to threes, and a bunch of factors I forget offhand.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ruoff in foul trouble.

I think that’s what he does best.

its tanking quick now.

I was going to say.

By the way, i think James Harden is actually 47.

Funny thing is

when I thought UT was going to pull out the W, I was going to make a post in the open game thread saying how awesome a UT – ETSU game would be. And how surprising.

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I almost dont want ETSU to win

just as a UT fan, so I don’t feel completely deflated.

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It'd be the first time ever.

I don’t think they’ll do it, but I’d like them to win.

That last sequence for Pitt was atrocious on the refs’ part. They’re not calling anything on Blair.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Pitt is so off balance

They have 15 turnovers and are rushing all over the court looking for shots.

ETSU is looking good….

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 4:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Starting to get out of hand, Blair is gonna be the difference maker.

I’m out. Enjoy the Madness.

by BeantownVol on Mar 20, 2009 4:52 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Im not watching but

down by 6 with 4:50 to go. Still very much anyones game. But this is where Pitt should shine.

now with less meyton panning.

Cya, thanks for the commentary!

now with less meyton panning.

by Pride of the Southland on Mar 20, 2009 5:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Only mostly.

It reads like someone hasn’t watched Tennessee play except for the tournament; this team pretty clearly wasn’t built like the prior Pearl teams (hint: look at the guard play of prior years, then look at this season). With that being said, what we’re calling inconsistency he’s calling satiation, so it’s just a matter of what you want to call it. That isn’t hard to see.

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So these games aren't as exciting.

USC-BC is close, Morehead State is aggressive early but they’ll get outclassed before it’s all said and done, and I’m not following Portland State-Xavier. Also, does it make sense to want Utah to win (since they’re playing ‘Zona) as a 5-seed if I’m rooting for upsets?

by Graysnail on Mar 20, 2009 7:50 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Morehead's hanging in there...

Only down 2 at the half.

Yeah, I just switched over to that game on MMOD.

Way to go, kids. 16 seeds today have some fight in them.
