Note: I had the prices wrong. They have been updated. Sorry for any confusion. --hooper
A few people have expressed interest in curling over the last few weeks. (If you hadn't, I wouldn't have kept posting on it!) Well, if you live in the Knoxville area and wanted to give it a try, the opportunity is available this summer. Summer curling is the time to learn because there is no formal league setup and because there are no USCA dues to worry about.
If it's something that's of interest to you, email me at the address provided in my profile and I'll send you more detailed information. Here's the basics:
- Sundays from June 14 through July 19. (I think the time is 8:30 - 10:30 PM, but I'm still confirming that, so call that tentative.) That amounts to 6 total weeks.
$75$95. Juniors/Students: $40$60. (That's for all 6 weeks.)
- No equipment is necessary. The club has the sliders/brooms/etc. you'll need. All you'll have to bring is warm clothing (layers is best; you'll get warmer than you think) and clean athletic shoes. The "clean" part is highly important; you can't wear shoes in off the street because the dirt will destroy the ice and can damage the stones.
- If you have concerns about coordination and balance, feel free to wear a helmet. Many of the regulars wear them, and nobody ever teases anybody else for protecting the noggin.
- In order to guarantee the ice, the club will need payments by April 15th (yes, tax day!). The payment would go to the club treasurer (not to me!) and I would provide the details for that to those who want it.
It'd also give me an opportunity to put some faces to some usernames.
