NCAA Tournament Open Thread: Sweet Sixteen Games
Bumped to the front for tonight's games. Enjoy! [Note by hooper, 03/27/09 5:37 PM EDT ]
In what is appearing to be a post-Vols tourney tradition, this thread is being opened up after the first set of games are already over for today. I'll keep it open for Friday's games as well, making this the talking zone for Sweet Sixteen action.
Like before, if you have any observations/thoughts/etc. feel free to leave them here. I don't anticipate heavy commenting, but it's the one time that college basketball draws national interest, so have at it.

Ambivalent.
To be honest, I’m just not a basketball guy. Pearl’s a lot of fun to pull for, and I’ve always like the Lady Vols. But it just doesn’t hold my interest all that much outside of homerism.

Yeah, I cant watch them with the same enthusiasim thats for sure, get more interested in just who won or lost
Tackled by "Puki" and a host of Volunteers
It'd be kind of fun to see Missouri win, though.
A slightly undersized team that runs up and down the court all night long and plays a mean press.
…sounds familiar…

The Calipari technical foul didn't help their case for my sympathy either...
Why do coaches do that?

Not a chance.
Calipari would be a fool to trade such a secure position like Memphis for Kentucky.

19 point lead for the Tigers
over the tigers… ;-)
Missouri is beating Memphis the way UT used to beat them – by an aggressive press and running them clean off the court.
Watch Missouri when they have to play a halfcourt offense. Nobody is standing, or even walking. They’re running.

Calipari nearly got ejected.
Another technical, but against the bench rather than him directly. That was a warning shot by the officials, but Calipari is doing his team no favors by these fouls.
This is way closer than I expected.
This tournament has conditioned me to expect blowouts (and there’s time still for it). At least Missouri should be in shooting range at the under-4, which is an …improvement. Man, it hurts to say that.

Yeah.
It’s been a boring tourney this time around.

I spoke too soon.
UConn at +6 going into the under-4 TV timeout. This is going to be one of those finishes where we talk ourselves into thinking Missouri has a shot, but the peripherals are all in UConn’s favor right now, not the least of which is team fouls.

I don't have much hope for Missouri.
For them to make it happen, the game needs to be played much faster. Between the timeouts and UConn’s lead, that’s not likely.
