In other news, the NCAA announced today...
In other news, the NCAA announced today that it is going to go ahead and pre-emptively place the Kentucky men’s basketball program on probation, in the wake of news that the Wildcats hired Memphis coach John Calipari as their new head coach to replace Billy Gillispie.
Lou Brock loves Lamp.
That would be wholly believable, too.
At the very least, the NCAA is going to make massive changes in the way LOIs can be structured. Calipari, by giving his players those escape clauses in their LOIs at Memphis, has effectively gutted Memphis basketball for years to come. It wouldn’t be a big deal if the NCAA would admit that players are recruited to coaches, but their insistence that the athletes are drawn to schools makes this a rather bitter pill for them to swallow.

Memphis uncertainty
Neither Cousins or Henry know whether Coach Calipari is staying or going, but if he does leave, neither prospect will have a problem severing ties with Memphis. Cousins has not signed a Letter of Intent, and Henry has language in his Letter releasing him from his obligation if Coach Calipari were to leave.

There's heavy speculation on it.
My references are all SportsAnimal talk shows, so no linky. But the short of it is this:
Prior to the Gillispie dismissal, Kentucky was projected to be 2 players over the scholarship limit next year. As many as 3 players could follow Calipari up to Kentucky, which would obviously require a -5 change in scholarships if indeed that many went. The speculation seems to have UK oversigned at +4.
Again, sorry for no link. It’s not something I made notes of when I heard the news, so I lost the names of the players. But yes, U of M is in huge trouble on the recruiting end. And not the NCAA sanction kind of trouble.

There's a summary in a FanPost at ASoB.
Linky here. Money line:
One thing is for sure, we need atleast one player to leave, not counting Williams, and up to four if we want Cal’s recruits.

I'll have none of this.
It’ll always be Neyland Stadium in my mind.
They can call it Nissan Stadium and Ford Field at Chrysler Landing topped by the Verizon Press Box with General Electric Light Poles and Food City seats for all I care. I think everyone here will agree, to us it’s Neyland Stadium.
Just noticed the date.
Nevermind.
Good gag, i had my hackles up even more that you guys were talking about basketball.
That was the whole point...
Heh!
