Did Tyler Smith declare?

Andy Katz marched out his preseason top 25 on April 6th ('cause, you know, it's never too early for next year...) and had Tennessee at 13. In his writeup, he includes the following:

"Tyler Smith declared for the draft, and coach Bruce Pearl didn't sound optimistic that Smith would return."

A news search on Smith produces absolutely nothing else about this at the moment. Does anybody have any better information about this?

I had been waiting for some kind of announcement on Smith

I’m not sure if this counts or not but I guess we’ll see how it plays out. I think for us to be 13 that’d involve every player taking a huge step forward… not sure I see it but the potential is there.

Nothing official yet

And certainly nothing official four days ago. Tyler’s been working out with the team, but that doesn’t mean anything for sure. April 26 is the deadline – and even if he declares, he could go the whole “not hiring an agent” business, which I think is what Meeks, Calathes and Devan Downey have all followed so far.

I am not a big NBA fan by any means

and I know very little about the draft, but what I saw this season I would say that this past season Tyler hurt his draft status. I would not tell him to not test the waters, but If I were him I’d stay and really work hard on my perimeter game.

"I remember once talking to one guy on the Cardinals and asking him what Pujols was like as a teammate. He said something that’s really special, if you think about it. He said: "Albert is so good that you feel like you let him down when you screw up." I thought that had to be the ultimate line that could ever be said about a ballplayer. I build my baseball team around that ballplayer."

Tyler’s Push: Tyler Smith plans to test the NBA Draft waters before deciding whether to return for his senior season. Pearl has told Smith if he is "comfortably" in the first round, he should go. Smith, however, is working out with the team in the meantime.
