"I believe the reason I wasn’t moved up is because it would hurt them in recruiting if they name a sophomore as their starter," Coleman said. "Some of the high school guys they’re recruiting might not want to go where they think they’ll have to sit for a couple of years.

So much FAIL in this logic
If a QB is scared of our depth chart… I do not want him, and neither would the coaches.
So you don't think there is a chance that there is some truth to his comments?
He is not Kiffin’s guy. Kiffin wants Kiffin’s guy to play quarterback. If Kiffin’s guy (who is probably better than Coleman, btw) knows he has an open shot at starting, he is more likely to come. Why is that logic flawed?
Official MCM Hater!
The flawed part is that Kiffin is willing to lose in order to get the recruit
If Coleman gave us the best chance to win, he would be out there, period.
So you really think that there are no politics or bias that go into decisions that coaches make?
Official MCM Hater!
Only when there is evidence to support it
We have a walk-on starting at MLB right now, a walk-on pushing our starting center, a walk-on taking over field goal duties, and a walk-on getting significant playing time as a wide receiver. Ahmad Paige, Chris Donald, and Gerald Williams are all at the bottom of the depth chart. Kiffin wants to win. He has to win. He knows that. You don’t set a precedent of playing bad players in order to get better recruits. When would the cycle end?
The whole idea that Kiffin wasn’t playing the better play at quarterback is absurd because, from start to finish, the majority of those who attended all practices (e.g. Brent Hubbs) have said that all quarterbacks look bad, but Crompton is the least bad. You can’t take the performance of the scrimmages and ignore everything else. By that logic, Toney Williams should be starting over Hardesty and Poole.
It's probably an "all else being equal" thing
My guess is that recruiting did in fact play a role in the decision, but that they feel good enough about Crompton at this point.

But things weren't equal
Crompton was doing better. Kiffin said this. Chaney said this. Hubbs said this. Others said this.
And don’t forget… the competition wasn’t even over yet! It was Coleman who demanded that Kiffin and Reaves name a starter. He was certain that he would be named the #1 guy. When he wasn’t, he quit. Had he left it at that, we probably wouldn’t even be talking about it. Instead, he decided to go on a 30 minute hit job against two coaching staffs and a fellow teammate.
I simply do not have any respect for him. Go about your business. If the team is not right for you… just say things weren’t working out and you’ve decided to move on. There is no need to handle it in this way, and there is no reason that the Vol Nation should fret about losing a 3rd string QB! Did Morley do this? Creer? Sawtelle? Bailey? No, they either said nothing, or said it wasn’t right for them.
I’m neither saying that Kiffin hasn’t made mistakes nor that he will not make mistakes in the future, but to assume that Coleman was being slighted requires taking for granted the assumption that in reality he was indeed performing the best – in scrimmages, practices, meetings, study, the whole shibang – and this is simply not true.
I don't know how much truth is in this quote:
I’ve had so many players come up to me and tell me I’m their guy, I’m the one to lead this team, and I even told the coaches if they would just give me the keys I would get us where we need to be.
Maybe hes just trying to put himself in the best light, but you do want your leaders out there if this is the case. (full disclosure: I’m not a Crompton-hater, just put the best guy out there that gives our team the best shot at winning)
now with less meyton panning.
