Scout.com: Vols pick up Big Miami offensive lineman
(Free read.) I'll be honest; I don't think I've ever heard of a 330-lb center before. Either way, he sounds like a great pickup that will land in the typical 3* to 4* range. Given his size and strength, he may be physically capable of contributing to the O-line sooner rather than later.

He is a midtermer
And he’s gonna have to lose 40 lbs or so.
Whether he starts for 4 years or not, he gives us some much needed depth. Coach O likes, so I like.

I'd be happy with 20 more pounds.
At 310, he’d work well either at D-tackle or guard. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind it if he’s quick enough to be a center at that weight, either. If he could snap and still get up quickly enough for zone blocking, there would be some ferociously huge cutback lanes available for the running game – especially near the goal line.

FWIW
Rivals has him lasted at 355 lbs.

I'm sure it'll change a lot.
In the Scout article, he talks about losing weight this spring and gaining strength and endurance. That’s why it’d be nice if they gave dates on the measurements. I’d also like to know if his running times (40, shuttle) have improved recently.

On The Animal he said he's 335.
So it sounds like he’s already losing the weight.

He was on the Animal?
I’ll have to download the podcast. Do you happen to know the time?

30 - 45 minutes ago
So like around 1:15 I think. Evan Hailes is on there right now.

I did manage to catch that interview.
Sounds like Askew is working him over pretty good.

Speaking of being a midtermer
Does that mean we can count him towards last years recruiting class? If so, this move looks better and better all the time.

Question answered!
Here’s the NCAA pdf file: it’s huge and official.
On page 186, Section 15.5.6.3.2 (Recruited Student-Athlete Entering after Fall Term, Aided in First Year.) refers specifically to Div. 1 football players. It reads, quote:
A student-athlete recruited by the awarding institution who enters after the first term of the academic year and immediately receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) shall be an initial counter for either the current academic year (if the institution’s annual limit has not been reached) or the next academic year. The student-athlete shall be included in the institution’s total counter limit during the academic year in which the aid was first received.
The term “initial counter” means you count against the 25 scholarships per year limit. The term “total counter” means you count against the 85 total scholarship limit. So a scholarshiped January 2010 enrollee may be counted either in the ‘09 or in the ’10 class. You would have to assume they’ll put him in the ’09 class to leave as much room as possible in the ’10 class.

Great work. Thank you
And great news, as well.

Side note:
This actually disincentives programs from handing out scholarships to too many walk-ons. For example, UT had more than 85 total players on the roster in 2008 if you include the practice squad. If they had given the full limit of 85 to players out of the kindness of their heart, they wouldn’t be able to sign any ‘09 midtermers under the ’08 class. (Was Toney Williams listed in ’08? I don’t know.)

he may be physically capable of contributing to the O-line sooner rather than later.
Regardless of capability, he may contribute early out of neccessity.

Wow
That is a bid dude. And proud of it, apparently, wearing his weight and all.

It looks like he's already lost some weight in that picture.
He has a bit of that recent weight loss shaping effect to him. Good for him!
