Neyland Stadium Renovation Photographs

A couple of days ago, the replacement of the JumboTron was discussed in a Talking Points post, and there was at least one point of interest in seeing how things were going with the renovations. So, without unnecessary lead-in, here are some snapshots to give you out-of-towners an idea of how things will look this fall. (Huge h/t to the Mrs., who took all of these photos.)

Jumbotron

I’m sure I could dig it up somewhere, but I’m feeling lazy…

How big is the new Jumbotron gonna be? And will there be one on each end?

Funny you should mention that...

I saw a woman who works in my building wearing an Alabama hat yesterday. I told her when need to get her a new hat, something in a shade of Orange. She looked at me and said “oh, I’m a Tennessee fan, I just can’t stand the colors so I wear this.”

Nice shots...

…especially that one of my favorite gate. It’s sort of funny seeing the Jumbotron dismantled. It strangely brings back memories of those gigantic old console TV sets my Grandparents used to have. They were four parts wood to one part TV — essentially a lot of empty space. I guess those are still the rage, just on a decidedly grander scale.

Dare I say, “Bigified”?

What a shame. They should incorporate that into the new scoreboard. I loved how they were lit up, and everyday of the year, those glowing letters served as a beacon of hope to all who gazed upon them. I could see them lit up from Hodges library when I was studying at night, and would relive in my mind glorious Saturdays gone by and remember what they looked like from inside the stadium over a scoreboard that read TENNESSEE 30 FLORIDA 28. But that’s ok. Mr Hamilton, Clemson alum, can strip the stadium of all character and charm. Got rid of the hedges, now get rid of the letters. It’s like tearing down the green monster just a few feet at a time.
