RTT's Create Your Own Uniform Contest - Vote for the Winner
Many thanks to all who participated in our Create a Uniform contest using EA Sports' TeamBuilder (a friendly reminder that NCAA Football 10 will be in stores on Tuesday). We've narrowed the field using one submission from each of our entrants, and we now turn the contest's fate over to you the reader.
The poll will be open from now until Monday at 11:59 PM EDT to give everyone a chance to get their votes in, and we'll announce the winner on Tuesday. First place gets their choice of a copy of Meat Market from Bruce Feldman, or a copy of Rocky Top Tennessee 2009 which we're all very proud of here. Second place gets the other.
We had similar entries and similar ideas on some of these, so we gave preference on similarities to those who submitted first, and tried to get a wide range of orange, white and black in the mix.
Lots of good ideas are represented here...should be interesting to how the majority feels. Check out photos of each of our entrants after the jump...
[Note by Joel, 07/11/09 9:36 PM EDT ] You know, stuffing the ballot box by logging out and voting anonymously is really bad form, especially when there are prizes involved. Note that of the three front page writers here at RTT, we have a nuclear engineering Ph.D. candidate who knows how to find these things out, a pastor who can make you feel guilty about it, and a lawyer who can sue you for it. ;-)

oops
you bump the voting to the top and I go ahead and dump recruiting news right on top of it.
I’m such a troglodyte.
heh.
Different Todd, natch. It was a submission sent by email.
…or was that really you? ;-)

Traditional...sans black.
While the more traditional uniform (white/orange, no black) is ahead in the poll right now, it’s apparent that a number of voters do want black to become part of the uniform. In fact, if those who voted for some variation of black had consolidated their votes, they would be in the lead.
For the record
That was my only submission without black in the uniform. You can see all my designs at the link below. I definitely think we could black in our uniforms!

So far, it seems to be working for you.
Since you’re the only one with a blackless entry on the poll, you have a nice little niche.
But one thing I’ve notice in watching some footage from way back when, they’ve used black before. It’s been a trim color – especially around numbers and names – but it’s not like they’ve never had black on the unis.
I just don’t want them using black on days they’ll be in the extreme heat. There’s adding look, and then there’s making things more difficult on yourself, and fashion should take a back seat to function.

Although
To be fair, you must realize that there’s only one uniform in the entire bloody contest that has our traditional colors with no black. If you don’t like that one particular design, then you’re stuck voting for black, even if it isn’t your favourite idea.

Checkerboard
I think I could see incorporating a bit of the orange and white checkerboard onto the uniforms….I am not sure at what point the pattern would begin to be too “busy”. We don’t want a “Harlequin” look.

but we could always replace the black with white... ;-)
(and seriously, you’re right; a checkerboard accent is one thing, but a checkerboard mosaic would be horrible)

So......
Did some guys click on Burt Orange and Clemson Orange?
Probably.
But I think that’s not an issue. We all seem to agree that EA hates Tennessee because they refuse to give us a good UT orange, so that should be overlooked for the voting.

Orange and White
Just a reminder, our colors are Qrange and White. Black and Orange reminds me of Halloween. I think if you mix black with a true Tennessee faded Orange it just does not work. Adding black to the uniforms will not make the players any better, ask UGA. Change for the sake of change is not always a good thing. Just a thought. Go Vols!
Orange & White
That sounds like what our team was thinking last year. We need a new attitude, I don’t think changing the school colors is the way to get a winning attitude. This needs to be done on the field. Adding black to the school colors is just a distraction from what we really need to do. Besides black in our colors just being stupid MY MAN!
Orange & White
Devel dog #1 , blount vol #2, Do you guys see we are Big Orange and not big black. Thats what the fans want. Just check 3SIB on the black jersey issue. It is not UT. I think Kiffin is great for the program, (more disipline) but we do not need to toss tradition out the window. After all this is the SEC. This is the birthplace of college football rivalries ( not discounting yale/harvard 1800’s. I remember when the 3rd Saturday in October was THE game. I hope that returns. Bottom line is incorporating a non school color into the scheme will not help a tenuious situation. What else do you need to know MY MAN!
Riddle me this.....
If we augment the black in our unis in the future what are you going to do? Are you going to quit watching on TV? Are you going to quit going to games? Look wildman, I’m down with the Orange and White all day long with you, but I don’t know to laugh or feel for you that you are actually comparing a contest on a blog to the apathy of the football team last year. Are you serious?
Do I want blackouts, black unis, etc. No. I wanted Phil gone and everything that went with him. Now he’s gone. Lane Kiffin is the head coach now. It’s his program to run. If the man wants to throw a little more black in the unis, so be it. I signed up for the full deal, real deal, Holyfield.
Tennessee’s “Tradition” has been and will be built on winning football games. Not what color they wear, not what song we sing, not a walk players do before a game, not 100,000 seats, not a mass of boats. Without wins, you have none of the aforementioned as “traditions”. You play to win the game. You don’t play to wear Orange and White. You kiddin’ me brah? Those variables could have been a thousand different things. Winning football games builds traditions.
In closing, things change. Get used to it.
Funny
I don’t remember anyone making the argument that wearing black will make a tenuous situation better. And thank you for reminding me (as people always do) that our colors are orange and white. Look, this is just a “what if” scenario born out of some jerseys found on sale at the mall. I wouldn’t put too much stock in it. We’re just havin’ some fun. Yes I also hope the Third Saturday in October can return to its former glory. To do that I think Kiffin needs throw the NCAA rulebook out and wear orange jerseys when they visit Alabama this year. What do you think?
No rule
as long as everyone agrees.
