Volquest: Austin Rogers will miss the season with a (likely) torn ACL

VolQuest is citing multiple sources in reporting that senior wide receiver Austin Rogers "likely" tore his ACL during off season workouts and will miss the season.

Rogers has caught 76 passes for 891 yards in his four-year career as a Vol. He missed 2006 with a medical redshirt for both a shoulder injury and an extended battle with mononucleosis. A precise route-runner, he's also quite tough, and would likely have contributed well this season, especially as a third down specialist. He was, however, listed on the post-spring depth chart as a backup to Gerald Jones. In any event, Rogers will be missed.

I have never been an Austin Rogers fan...

BUT, I hate to see his career potentially end in this fashion. It doesn’t matter if I liked him or not because he “gave his all for Tennessee” for four years and I definitely respect that.

Good luck Austin, get well.

Tennessee WILL beat Georgia on the way to 9+ wins in '09!!!

Also

What are the odds of another medical redshirt? This would have been his 5th year, but 4th if you count the previous redshirt correct? So, does he get another one and come back to play with Zach next season?

Given this and our apparent depth in the secondary,

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Teague get moved to WR.

It's a bad deal for Rogers, but as long as

#[Whatever Crompton’s Number is] is playing QB, losing WRs won’t hurt the offense too bad.
