Dion Bailey Signs On The Trojan Dotted Line...is Jesse Scroggins Next?
Quote: "In an interesting side bar, Lakewood High School also happens to be the team that Jesse Scroggins, the fast-rising, multi-skilled quarterback plays for."
Hmm. Hadn't heard anything yet about how much he'd like to play with high school teammates. Is this guy like a cousin to Scroggins?

I think
HIs cousin that we won’t offer is actually in Memphis. Not sure though…
Either way, I’m getting to the point that I don’t care. Lamaison or Scroggins, they can both be coached up.
Lamaison could get here this fall, but Scroggins could really blow our recruiting wide open if he commits which would probably be the biggest advantage to getting him.
Tennessee WILL beat Georgia on the way to 9+ wins in '09!!!

Here's my reply to the USC homer article over on Bleacher...
Very well done. But, why not come to Tennessee, Mr. Scroggins? You can play for Pete Carroll’s Old Offensive Coordinator who put a couple of quarterbacks in the NFL himself. One of them even won a Heisman.
Even better, you can play right away. No lines, No waiting.
As for NFL success of our own, sure, it’s been a bit thin lately (which spells opportunity, son), but we do have one famous QB up there in the League.
And, here’s where it comes full circle, fellas, Kiffin was the OC for USC when Matt Leinart won the inaugural Manning Award for the best QB in the nation. Kiffin’s now at Manning’s alma mater.
Come play football in the best conference in the country in front of 107,000 screaming fans, where every single game is televised and the conference winner plays for the national championship every year. In case, you forgot – because it’s been a while – we have one of those, too.

Looks like it was well-received over there.
Maybe it’s because I see things UT-outward, but I was a but surprised that they spent more time trying to explain why USC was a better choice than Florida as opposed to Tennessee. It’s really felt like UF has been out of the picture on this one.

Wish it hadn't been a friendly pat on the head & the UCLA comparison really hurt
But there’s not a lot I can say until we beat UCLA this year.
Nationally, it makes sense for USC to worry about FL. The SEC has a stack of National Championships lately, and we unfortunately have not contributed to the stack. He would hate to see FL reload.
Until we prove ourselves as rebuilt (2010 or 2011, at best), we won’t merit the USC jealously or concern.

I think this is significant due to the press conference aspect.
It was thought that they were arranging a press conference because both Scroggins and Bailey were going to commit to USC at the same time. Now, I think it’s more in the air.

Scroggins puts a lot of focus on playing with HS teammates
Apparently he made it clear that he would like us to offer his cousin in memphis as well. But in this interview video he talks about UT vs USC and how he wants to play with his HS teammates along with the importance of academics in his decision. This is fairlly recent and IMO not looking good for us at all.

It'll be interesting.
But if we’re reading tea leaves in that video, the clearest one is that Florida’s not in the discussion.

More positive than I thought reading about his leanings
He was impressed with the Rock and the fan base tradition. The poll about “how much do we need Jesse” also made an impression with him (and with the CA news reporters). Agree with Hooper. It’s down to USC and TN. He mentions his Mama’s family again. And, his HS teammates.

Same thought I had
Nothing but positives about Tennessee and didn’t really even talk about the others. I’m actually more encouraged after watching that.

I found it odd that the reporter only asked questions about Tennessee.
And I don’t know what, if anything, should be read into that.

This is what I hate about recruiting.
I’m sitting here trying to read into the mind of an 18 year old based on what he says in an interview conducted by a 12 year old…. and I get completely sucked in.

Yep.
That’s what got me into making a map over the whole thing…

Which I really like btw
For those like me that don’t follow closely enough to get subscriptions to rivals or scout its a great overview of the whole process.

Now if only I had as much time for it as it deserves...
I’m hoping to get an hour or so in on it today. But wow, is this month busy.

Let's hope it's not all a big set-up
UT hat on the podium, pulls out a Trojan hat and puts it on.
(Off color alert: funny typo – let out a word first time through; glad I caught that one)

heh. i see what you (almost) did there...
For once, though, I’d like to see a prospect surprise us all by putting on the hat that’s actually in front of him. Nobody would see that coming.

Yep, it'd be kind of like committing to a school & actually signing with them. Kinda like a COMMITment.
You never see that any more, so it would be a huge surprise.
