Around the SB Nation: how to buy a numbered college football jersey
The day's best links from around the SB Nation network:
- Before you buy a numbered-jersey, be sure to check out Bucky's 5th Quarter's helpful guidance on how to make sure you're not stuck with a loser. I'm certain that a Tennessee No. 14 is safe, but does anyone care to do a FanPost applying these rules to Tennessee to see what we're safe buying this season?

Ok...
So what number for Tennessee fans is a safe jersey to get in your opinion? Or in anyone’s opinion?
Any of the retired numbers:
Manning and White are gold. Al Wilson is also a winner.
But for the present players, Berry is the most obvious safe number. Gerald Jones should be ok (I’m going off of gut feel here). Rogan, perhaps, especially because he’s Knoxville local. Dan Williams. Rico McCoy.

Bryce Brown will wear 11
You’re also pretty safe if you go with current players who could also be former greats if things go south – you get Joey Kent’s old number with BB, you get Donte Stallworth with Gerald Jones. 16, 27 and 92 are all good as Hooper mentioned. I also like Brandon Warren/Leonard Little, plus there’s something about a #1 jersey. And Rae Sykes/John Henderson’s 98 is cool just for the year.

Does anybody remember...
Benji Shuler’s number?
I want that one… ;-)
Tennessee WILL beat Georgia on the way to 9+ wins in '09!!!
I love that the jeresy thing came up today
I never wear jerseys but I bought one today, an old #10 that was on clearance at the mall for $10. Although I did like Ainge, I bought it because Marsalis Teague will supposedly be wearing #10 this year (and hopefully for years to come) and Teague is from my hometown (Paris, TN).
I also have that
It’s an away one, and I have the home jersey in #7. Got both of them in Ainge and Schaffer’s freshmen year. Guess I hedged my bet there.
In any case, I like them both, but my favorite is the entire #5 home B-ball uniform I picked up at TJ Maxx for like $20. Stitched jersey and shorts, real nice…

I have
an odd collection of Tennessee players in NFL jerseys, before the Oilers came to Nashville and I was sans favorite team. I’ve got Reggie White in Green Bay, James “Little Man” Stewart in Jacksonville, Carl Pickens in Cincy…I guess they’d be considered throwbacks today, though I’d say only one of them is worth some money…

#5
My first jersey was a #5 for Thomas “TD” Woods. Any downsides to dusting off a #5 jersey?
Last season, my wife grew too hot at the first home game, so she decided to go shopping. We wanted a jersey for our 2 year old. She came back with a #8 jersey, and I politely asked if any alternatives existed. She said “I think it was 14 or something, but I thought that was kind or random. Don’t you think he should have the QBs number.” I agreed to get her a frozen lemonade if she’d let me exchange the jersey for a #14.
I'll admit it...
I have a number 22 jersey… I know I know… I jumped on the Coker band waggon too early… I know.. ha ha
Is it possible to get an NCAA jersey
with the player’s name on it if said player had his jersey number retired? I really really want a UT Reggie White jersey, which I’m discovering are a bit tricky to find, but I’m hesitant because I like having the player’s name on the back. I might eventually cave and just get the ole #92 but to me it just isn’t the same. Does anybody have any knowledge on this subject or else knows of a store/website that sells such merchandise?
"It's static noise. You can't hear anything. You go up and down the line, your wide receivers, your running backs, your tight ends, nobody can hear. Nobody."

You can also
Create a personalized jersey and just put 92/WHITE on there. Lots of places on the net you can do this, including here

Except try to get an adult jersey with a single digit
It puts the number over on the left side of the front. It looks absolutely ridiculous. All I want in this world is a Deon Grant jersey #7. I have been looking for months. Nothing.
