Yes, we begin today with Mark Richt of the Georgia Bulldogs straightaway at 8:40. There will also be an opportunity to talk with quarterback Joe Cox and defensive tackle Jeff Owens.

As we did yesterday, I'll be leaving my instant impressions in the comment thread below so that you don't have to refresh your browser for new comments and so you can respond to any particular statement in a nice, orderly threaded fashion.

See ya below.

Yes, that is correct

Sorry for the switcheroo, but as I was pre-posting the rest of the threads today, I noticed that the system somehow doesn’t account for the time zone switch. So I got confused.

You should ask him if he voted for Tim Tebow

Because no one else will ask him that.

By the way . . .

. . . I’m pretty sure that the streaming available on the SEC site is from another room, so everything you’re getting from me here is different.

woo

NO changes in clock rules.

Offensive formations

O required to have 7 on line of scrimmage. Always been that way. Now, same rule, but says O may have no more than four in the backfield. Easier to officiate.

Kicking game

Rugby kicks. Is he running or kicking? Advantages to kicking team. More likely to be line drive, so change: if punter carries the ball outside the tackle box before he kicks, no roughing the kicker penalties. You can hit him.

me neither.

It’d take too much time. The only utility would be a rolling out qb who kicks as a plan B.

Expectations

Put the work in. Work together. Realize it takes more than just two stars like they had last year. Maybe that will be a benefit this year.

Q: Talk about Joe Cox.

A: You need an accurate passer, great decision-maker, someone who can handle pressure, and need a leader. Joe has all of that. No. 1 vote-getting in post-spring team voting. That says a lot about him. Players believe that Joe was ready last season if he’d been called up.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 9:46 AM EDT reply actions

Q: Tebow.

A: Yes, he voted for Tebow. After dramataic pause.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 9:46 AM EDT reply actions

Q: What about Tebow? Is it a big deal?

A: Ballots are private for a reason. Everyone has the right to their own opinion. It would be difficult not to vote for Tim. Maybe a mistake in the calucation? A typo?

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 9:47 AM EDT reply actions

Q: Spoken to Nutt about expectations?

A: No. Love Houston, but we haven’t gotten into that. We talk about family, etc.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 9:48 AM EDT reply actions

Q: What is it about FL?

A: Lots of great athletes. At one time the big three were in different conferences. If in the same, they might not have had that much success.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 9:49 AM EDT reply actions

Q: Contract on the cocktail party.

A: He just wants to focus on trying to win the game. Same answer twice, in face of direct Q whether he wanted it somewhere else?

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 9:50 AM EDT reply actions

Q: Blackout again this year?

A: Maybe we’ll wear block, but need the fans to be on board.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 9:52 AM EDT reply actions

Q: Schedule

A: Nonconference. 3 of 4 is a lot, and then look at who they are. It’s tough. It’s the highest preseason start for Oklahoma State. Then Arizona St., Georgia Tech.

“The plan was never to have three BS . . . BCS opponents.”

Salaries

Assistant coach salaries, yes, they’re going up. It’s sometimes difficult to keep the staff. At GA, though, we have a bunch of coaches, and you want to pay them well. Create an atmosphere where coaches love coming to work. Don’t micromanage.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Q: What's best way to handle expectations?

A: “I don’t know.” Your mind has to be focused on teh process of getting prepare. Offseason conditioning, behaving, belief in how important the team is, focus on fundamentals. Just stay focused.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 10:03 AM EDT reply actions

Q: What’s best way to handle expectations?

A: Don’t think about them.

by David Hooper on Jul 23, 2009 10:04 AM EDT up reply actions

Q: Depth in secondary and RBs.

A: Jones and Evans, we have a lot of confidence in them. Some other good guys behind them.

RBs: Could blindly grab 2 or 3 and would have confidence in them. Nobody’s separated themselves from the pack, but the whole pack is good.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 10:05 AM EDT reply actions

Q: QBs, packages for them?

A: Two freshman QBs and Logan Gray are all trying to win that backup job. We’ll get them as much experience as we can.

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jul 23, 2009 10:06 AM EDT reply actions

Crompton can play poorly

And we can still start 3-1. Georgia has no such luxury.

by Will Shelton on Jul 23, 2009 10:09 AM EDT up reply actions

but even at 3-1

would he be supported if his start is poor?

by David Hooper on Jul 23, 2009 10:10 AM EDT up reply actions

All in the phrasing, I suppose

How about “Cox will lose support first”. You’re right though, 3-1 doesn’t guarantee our undying love for Jonathan.

Just wait 'till they play USC:

The “Go ’Cocks!” cheer will be quite confusing.

(UGA fans ought to start their own “Go Cox!” cheer up, just to piss off the USC fans…)

Over the last couple of years, USC had a lot of unfortunate names.

I’m surprised that more of them didn’t get played out over the interwebs. And I think, for respect of the blog’s decency standards, I’ll just leave things at that.

Willie Martinez

Q: Impressions of Petrino?

A: His history is one of success. Louisville’s struggled since he left. He knows what he’s doing. Great QB developer. Good scheme. He’s “just an outstanding coach.”

Second season is often a break out season.

A: It’s amazing he was here for the first team 9 years ago. They way things are, it’s tough to predict that you’ll be in one place that long in the SEC.

Maybe their 2002

Supposed to win it all, end average. Which if the pattern holds, Richt can drag that out for a few more years…his problem is he doesn’t have the big ring as insurance.

That means everyone who coached somewhere in the 90s

isn’t coaching there now…even if it’s the way things are, can’t say I like it.

They're off at tables in front of a crowd of reporters

Can’t bring the computer. Have a handheld, but the sound quality is bad. I’ll try to get better positioning for Tebow (unless he’s at the main podium) and for Berry.

Who's left in the TebowGate sweepstakes?

Gottta be Saban or Les Miles…and I could see either of them admitting it too.

by Will Shelton on Jul 23, 2009 10:15 AM EDT reply actions

I'm just wondering:

Like the Coach’s Poll during the regular season, could it be that somebody handed their ballot to an assistant, and the assistant made the non-Tebow vote?

If so, then it’d be easy to say that all the head coaches vote for Tebow, even if not all the ballots show that.

by David Hooper on Jul 23, 2009 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Hm, I'm bad at these type things, I'll take the Over

Probably will be something for student-athlete with good service and community record. Or is there already an award for that??
