All the talk is about the things you've said

SI article just read how competitive this conference is. So hard to recruit. Kids don’t want to leave their own state. You got to do something unique. In TN, we don’t have a lot of great players in the state. Plan had to be to create national attention immediately. No four or five year plans. We’d love to wait to win games, but we can’t. No time. Do I love everything I’ve done; no, but it needed to be done in my opinion.

Soemthing special's going on at Tennessee now

Hearing that everywhere we go. Feedback’s been unbelievable all over the country. So it’s working.

9th graders are going to remember it. It’s an important transition. We love to coach ball. Teaching the guy to make the play, knowing you got him better, that’s good stuff.

Q: Time to let the product do the talking? Time to pipe down?

A: It’s not b/c of the timing. Now that we have the energy, that’s why we can tone down now. Can focus on football now, though. But we have a ton of work to do.

Rocky Top Talk

Q: Eric Berry; why not use him at QB?

A: Couple reasons. Not fair to him. Probably won’t be back next year. First year of new defense. Take practice time away from him to do that. Don’t want to hinder his development. Might be different if he wasn’t learning a new defense as well.

A: Our offense excites HS players. Can plug them in right away. Look at USC. What can they do really well. Give them an opportunity. Don’t ask them to do everything. Focus on that. Then, as they get older, ask them to do more.

Orgeron: Extremely valuable. He’s the passion of the program. Everyone feeds off his energy. He and Monte sleep at the office. They’re on different schedules. Three red bulls by 4:20. Monte’s still asleep. No better recruiter. Also an excellent developer. Again, look at USC. Look at Ole Miss.

what about the other bro?

or has the LSU reporter already asked that?

Q: Taylor Mays; compare and contrast?

A: I’ve watch a lot of film on him. We run the same defense. I’ve learned a lot from him. He’s a big freak/monster. Being 230 and still be that fast and athletic. Like Sean Taylor. Think of myself as . .. Reed. He’s a great safety in my eyes.

Q: Any pressure for the defense to carry the team?

A: Nah. We take care of each other. There have been times when the offense saves the defense. OT against KY.

Q: Need to have success immediately to help Kiffin?

A: Yeah, we’re the new era, the first impression. We’ve been working really hard to make him look good. He’s been working hard. Long hours. Just want to make that impression on the nation. For him and for ourselves.

Thanks, y'all. It's been fun.

Just saw Bud Ford. Headed him off. Stuck out my hand. Smiled. He smiled and shook my hand. As soon as I told him who I was, he started looking around, said, “I was trying to find . . . someone. I think I’m going to miss him,” and then turned around and walked in the other direction.

Nice.
