There seems to be a stigma against JC quarterbacks.
Why is that? We’ve gotten a lot of really good defensive players from JC over the last few years. Perhaps it’s because he went to JC not because of academic reasons, but to develop his game more before playing D1 ball? I have a gut feeling that this kid is going to impress people, and quickly.
John Adams had an article about that.
He mentioned a couple other JCs who apparently busted in SEC ball. I’m not sure if there was any real significance to his comparison, but that seems to be the main source right now.
If you assume that JC transfers are similar in flight paths to other transfers, then players like Snead would run counter to that logic. Don’t know how good the assumption is, though.

Yeah, the logic is "he didn't cut it previously, why now?"
But just like the Kiffin arguments, we won’t really know until they hit the grass in the fall.
Welcome Nick!

Think of this
as a 1-year prep for 2010. Either way, a ‘10 commit wouldn’t have more than a spring practice (and that only if he committed early). This gives Lamaison a full season to see the offense on the field. Additionally, he’ll get to see the growing pains.

Just really have to trust the coaches evaluations.
That Jim Chaney supposedly loves him gives me some confidence.

Yeah.
I got that on the big board. I hope to get an update post on Tuesday next week.
Hope.

That Scouts description made me a wee bit excited about him
Assuaged the mind, if you will. There’s still a lot of great gems out there it seems. No need to worry.

Gotta love the staff's tenacity
I love how they’ve already moved on. They are “workin’ like heck” to get a talented QB in here. It’s all part of the plan.
John Adams actually got it right
I tend to agree with his recent column, simply because I can’t think of any JUCO QBs (other than Louisiana Tech’s Tim Rattay) that have ever stepped into a major D1 program in the last 20+ years and had success (that is a relative term, of course). Sure when you look at the ridiculous numbers these JUCO QBs put up, it makes us salivate, but there is a reason why they call in “junior” college football. Obviously, the learning curve for an ex-JUCO QB is quite steep, which is a major reason why you don’t see them putting up Heisman numbers in D1 football.
That being said, there is an obvious need for warm bodies on the quarterback depth chart, and Kiffin has to bring in someone (hence the tenacity). Any good coach would realize that. The Vols really have nothing to lose with Lamaison.
