Around the SB Nation: Minnesota's Check BAC program
- Gobbler Country is all over the season-ending injury to Hokies running back Darren Evans. Coverage includes a comprehensive link dump, a look at the running backs no longer behind Evans on the depth chart, and how the offense in general will need to adjust for the absence of Evans.
- You know those doohickeys they'll install on your car after a DUI conviction that forces you to take a breathalyzer before you can start your car? Yeah, me neither. But Minnesota's Check BAC program is doing that with students with priors.
- Year2 at Team Speed Kills says not to overlook the Gators' coaching staff changes and notes that "two new coaches (Brian White and Scott Loeffler) on a team trying to go undefeated were a combined 0-28 last season between the winless Huskies and Lions."

The worst Alabama could do
Would be to assume that now they’re in good shape against VT. Those guys have always got somebody else in the cupboard, the same way Evans supplanted Ore last year. I watched Evans run for 253 against Maryland last year – he’s tough and still has a great future ahead of him. But Beamer will find somebody else and it won’t take long.
Will - Rocky Top Talk
The silver lining is
that running backs are more easily replaceable than any other position, simply because the learning curve is easy and the physical demands are easier to fill than positions like defensive tackle. This hurts VT, obviously, but almost any other starter would have been a bigger blow.

The hardest part to learn
As I understand it, is the pass blocking schemes.
I mean, the fundamentals of the running back position aren’t so complicated, are they?
Hold onto the ball, go as far forwards as you can.

That’s how I understand it. Especially reading blitzes.

That big guy right behind those other big guys behind our big guys are going to try to tackle that guy. Get in his way.

Thank you thank you
I’m here all season.
Which means hopefully longer than just “all year” (see what I did there?)
