Painting my office Tennessee Orange
Because there's no such thing as too much Tennessee Orange, I decided to paint my office with it. Here's a photo of what my office looked like before painting:
Here's the finished product:
Not bad, huh?
The University of Tennessee says the official color for Tennessee Orange is Pantone 151. If you ask a paint store to match that, they won't have the slightest clue what you're talking about because that's a system used by printers, not by the paint sales industry.
If you really hate Home Depot and/or Glidden paint, you can probably track down a Pantone color chip book, order it, bring it to your paint store of choice, and have them color match the chip. Or you could just go to Home Depot and ask for Tennessee Orange Glidden paint. They have a whole line that matches various college colors.
If you go with the Glidden paint from Home Depot like I did, you will probably be terrified when the first coat doesn't go on smoothly, with streaks of yellow in it. Don't worry, it'll look fine when you're done. I recommend a coat of gray primer and three top coats. My office looked okay after two coats, but the third one made a big difference.

What, no checkerboard? ;-)
In all seriousness, that’s just awesome. Nice work. And kudos for doing painting right – primer, multi-coat and everything.

Who says I'm not getting an checkerboard area rug?
And a “I will Give My All for Tennessee” sign to go above my door? (I’m not)
Thank you sir. Always glad to see someone else who appreciates proper painting procedure. Most of the people who say “you can skip priming if you do several top coats” are the same people who end up doing seven coats to get a red to look right.

I can't say enough good about primer.
We had to repaint over peach when we moved into our house. Without primer, the yellow pigment would have bled through, costing us at least 3 coats of paint to completely mask it. The stuff smells terrible and is a pain to work with, but saves so much time and money.

Is this the "HGTV Talk" section of the site?
You didn’t use that Kentucky blue painter’s tape did you? I hate that stuff.
Very nice rusty. I’m trying to talk the wife – I mean, I’m about to paint a checkerboard on one wall of the living room.

What has two thumbs and hates taping?
I don’t know if it’s worse that the tape is Kentucky Blue, or that the room looked like Auburn colors between coats.

Wow
I clicked through to one of the other posts, and the price went up from ~$1,300 to ~$2,700 for a painted bunk bed? How hard could it be to paint it?
I recently finished installing a ceiling fan, which turned out to be one of the most unpleasant things I’ve ever done. The fan wouldn’t fit the existing mounting bracket, so I had to go into the attic (where it’s like 120 degrees) and saw through the old one and mount a new one. That took a whole weekend because there was only space to get a Drimmel in to make the cuts (three of them).

Yeah
It’s a really nice bunk bed, but those prices are outrageous. Which is why my wife decided we should pay $80 for the plans. We could then make it ourselves. And by “we,” she meant “me.” It was actually a blast, but I practically killed myself on several occasions in the process.
