The appropriate passive-aggressive response

Would be to make a list of “notable” college football blogs on SBNation, and to list all of them but Team Speed Kills.

Gah.

Rec’d and concurred, before my computer went all Poltergeist on me.

I’ve been fairly underwhelmed by TSK.

Poltergeists?

I thought I was the only one still running Vista.

Actually, I love TSK and think they do a great job. Just had to call them on that oversight, though.

As ye sow, so shall ye reap!

Or, get Bobo to tell you what you’ll reap, and then sow accordingly.

The Windows Skip Rule holds.

Skip every other major release and you can’t go wrong. Back to 3.1.1:

Keep 3.1.1
Skip 95
Keep 98/NT
Skip 2000/Me
Keep XP
Skip Vista

Therefore,
Keep Windows 7 (I got my half-price preorder in this summer…)

Ugh, and I just "upgraded" to Vista last year.

And then they release a new one, and with those prices? Puh-lease. Practically armed robbery. They should give everyone a free copy of 7 that has Vista as a way to say sorry and please dont run to apple (which I don’t want to do either).

Probably going to have to wipe my HD and system this weekend and start over, my laptop is getting buggy and probably going to start crashing in 2 weeks for no reason.

Having said all that, the copy of Vista on my work computer hasn’t given me a single issue yet.

But I see your point; they released Vista too soon b/c of Leopard and I think they got burned for it. It’s really awesome in 7 that they’re shipping both the 32- and 64-bit in one package so you decide at the point of installation which way you want to go. I ordered mine via hard copy so I can wait until the semester break before installing it. It’s a full-on clean install from XP, so I’m planning a few days of internet silence, where I do nothing but watch bowl games while it loads. :-D

Actually I'm running OS 10.5.8

So what the poltergeist did was make me hit return about three times in succession. So maybe not so much a poltergeist as epilepsy.

And perhaps I’m just a too sensitive homer, but it has always seemed to me that TSKs covergae of Tennessee is a bit more antagonistic that necessary. Of course, this may just be anxiety because it’s 8 FREAKIN DAYS TIL FOOTBALL STARTS AND WHY WONT IT JUST FREAKIN START ALREADY.

Sorry. I’m better now.

No, you're right.

It’s run by a Gamecock fan and a Gator fan and they’re not overly concerned about editorializing their anti-UT stance out of their writing. It is a blog, after all.

But yeah. Football. Here. Now. Are we really so difficult to please?

My fantasy football draft is on Saturday, I don’t know what I’m going to do because I will be in Indiana as its a live draft. Any idea what stations are carrying it?

It's supposed to be on the SEC Network.

It might be paralleled on ESPN 360 for IP addresses outside the SEC Network’s coverage, but other than that I can’t really help.

For the record

In every case but Michigan, “Notable Teams” refers to teams that have been given a shot to win a conference championship and/or that are in the preseason top 25.

And that was the one that gigged me.

As I read the post, I really had no problem with the omission until I saw Michigan on there. Ah well; c’est la guerre. Here’s to hoping that our performance over the next few years makes a future omission indefensible.

by danmarcel on Aug 28, 2009 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Michigan was there because they’re synonymous with the Big Ten and I was having trouble coming up with a third team that would challenge Ohio State and Penn State. The thing is pushing 3200 words as it is; I nearly left Georgia out because I had instituted a 4 teams per conference limit but figured I couldn’t leave out the preseason No. 13 team. If I had included every team with an interesting story, Tennessee obviously would have been in.

Hey, Year2

Thanks for coming over and stepping into the hornet’s nest I created in your honor. ;-)

I see your point about being top-heavy in the SEC and why you included Michigan. Fact is, we’re not really in the conversation in the SEC because it’s so competitive, and although I think the program still has a Michigan-ish quality to it in that it’s a traditional powerhouse of the league, I think my reaction was more to being reminded of this.

As danmarcel said above, though, hopefully this season and the following ones can make this all a moot point.

If you beat Florida, I’ll issue an updated version at midseason with Tennessee as the headlining team. How’s that?

And hey, no worries. An unexamined blog is not worth writing, right?

If we beat FL

I’m ranking Tennessee No. 1 in the nation, not just the conference.

The 1970 game between Alabama and USC has been heralded by many (usually Trojan fans) as the contest which lead to the integration of Crimson Tide football. It's nonsense, of course, but that hasn't stopped that version of the story from spreading by West Coast revisionists.

One reasons Tennessee fans should be disappointed with this sloppy telling of history is that it almost completely discounts a historic game involving the Vols a year earlier.

In 1969, Lester McClain and Jackie Walker (pictured above) started in the Third Saturday in October game and broke the color line at Birmingham's Legion Field (a third black player, Andy Bennett, got into the game as well). Not only that, the Vols handed Bear Bryant's Tide team a 41-14 beatdown that afternoon.

I tell a bit of the tale at Roll Bama Roll today in my scathing review of a book about the 1970 Alabama vs. USC game, One Night, Two Teams.
