The Hilltoppers men's hoops team started out their season with a bang by beating the highly ranked Louisville Cardinals. Unfortunately for the Hilltoppers, this isn't basketball season and no amount of senior leadership will be able to cork the energy Kiffin and Gang have been pumping into the veins of the orange clad fellas.
The Vols come out strong and dominate from start to finish. We get a healthy dose of Hardesty with a dash of Bryce Brown. But it turns out to be quite the dash -- 40 yards of sneakily shifty power downhill running with only the checkerboard stopping his momentum in the end -- and the UT faithful get that warm happy feeling that folks get when you know you've got something special in the works. Equally plausible is that the warm happy feeling is the result of the collective UT faithful taking a healthy swig of bourbon from their trusty -- and surprisingly clandestine -- gameday flasks. In either event, spirits are high on Rocky Top. The Vols keep the gas on the pedal and finish with an impressive 45-10 victory.
In celebration, Coach O rips off his shirt, grabs a megaphone and challenges all WKU fans to a race to the top of "The Hill." Meanwhile, Lane Kiffin walks over to Layla and asks if she might be interested in some non-pg-13 celebratory acts later on in the evening. Layla, never one to be easily overcome with emotion, replies, "Lane, your chances of pulling off that trick live and die with L.A."
Immediately motivated, Lane sprints back to the locker room and gives a an emotional and energizing postgame speech that even manages to get the players riled up for Tuesday practice. His ulterior motives are unknown and indeed quite irrelevant to the Vol fans who take their time leaving Neyland - smiling as they sip on their last few ounces of bourbon. There is a new buzz in town.
