Brown has 3 carries

this makes me angry

"I remember once talking to one guy on the Cardinals and asking him what Pujols was like as a teammate. He said something that’s really special, if you think about it. He said: "Albert is so good that you feel like you let him down when you screw up." I thought that had to be the ultimate line that could ever be said about a ballplayer. I build my baseball team around that ballplayer."

by Smokin Turkeys on Sep 12, 2009 5:37 PM EDT reply actions

Wowzzers

I would have felt a lot better if Kai hit that. But then again, tennessee has only had .5 legitamate score so far.

Now UCLA has to play a 15 minute game with 100,000 holding a lot back.

No fourth quarter for you guys? I like our chances

Well

Regardless of how this turns out, this is a reality check. This team wasn’t going to go from 5-7 to world-beaters in one year.

Still, ugh.

Someone explain why we are passing as much as we are please?

The yards per attempt is significantly lower passing than rushing. To me it seems they are only halfway keying in on the run. Now with the second pick there is no reason that the number of pass plays should almost equal the number of run plays (if the ESPN tracker is to be believed). What logic am I missing?

by Muhler on Sep 12, 2009 5:39 PM EDT reply actions

It doesnt really seem like they are shutting down the run though.

I might be missing something painfully obvious, but our stats suggest its a lot better.

win this game.

I think weve earned some respect.

I heard from some of you that ucla would lose by 30+ points?!

I had to say that

i was surprised the oddsmakers had us by 6!

by davy on Sep 12, 2009 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Who in their right mind

thought that? I think we will win (even after that half) but itll be by 3 or 7.

by Muhler on Sep 12, 2009 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

trust me they posted it.

i got blasted for saying ucla by 3.

by dodgers2009 on Sep 12, 2009 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry, the body of my post didnt go through

They must be even bigger homers than I. I think we will win by between 3 and 7 (even after that half). I made the mistake of underestimating you (and over estimating ourselves) last year.

Not again.

by Muhler on Sep 12, 2009 5:46 PM EDT up reply actions

That type of speak will only hurt you in the long run

There is no stat category for moral victories.

I predicted 50-7 and I stand behind that, a win is a win

AND, since you like to play the “we’re giving this to you guys” game

Without our three turnovers, it could be 24-3 right now.

Tennessee WILL beat Georgia on the way to 9+ wins in '09!!!

but nevertheless i’d like to see him get more plays.

by davy on Sep 12, 2009 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

4.5 yards per rush

by Hardesty and 4.7 by Brown sure beats the 3.4 per attempt by Crompton.

it must be ucla disease

Same here.

And we still cant give up on it. Maybe focus more on the screen. Both picks were off of long pass attempts yes?

by Muhler on Sep 12, 2009 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Crompton's doing fine in the short passes

It’s the long passes that he keeps missing. And part of that is the extra time the UCLA defenders have to react to the ball. I imagine we’ll see A LOT of running next week.

In case they fumble again? Which the QB almost did anyway.

Jonathan Crompton has had so many chances

to show he has any ability, and he has failed so many times, it’s disgusting. I hope nobody tries to be a homer and argue we’re being too mean, or he needs a chance, or we need to hang in there with him.

He may win a job in practice, but with a game on the line, he can’t handle the pressure and get it done.

Good night, all.

by UTC on Sep 12, 2009 7:24 PM EDT reply actions

Make the thread and I shall

UCLA’s defense is much better than I anticipater, almost as good as ours.

Our offense is MUCH worse than I anticipated.

Your offense seems to suck as well, but ours makes yours look like 11 Tim Tebows on the field.

I predicted a 17 point Tennessee win in your post and that was obviously wrong.

I predicted a 50-7 Tennessee victory in the other post and that was obviously way wrong.

Congrats on the victory and GG to you guys.

Feel free to quote me as well.

Tennessee WILL beat Georgia on the way to 9+ wins in '09!!!

He must’ve switched jerseys with Rahim Moore. I’m out, no more trash talk…good luck with the rest of your season and in all seriousness with Bray you guys will dominate just wait one more year.

Crompton made us believe he had turned the corner

Crompton at the press conference now

I shouldn’t watch this.

“I feel like I was seeing the field well.” “The upside is we were in the game at the end.” “We had 4 turnovers and still had a chance to win.”

The 1970 game between Alabama and USC has been heralded by many (usually Trojan fans) as the contest which lead to the integration of Crimson Tide football. It's nonsense, of course, but that hasn't stopped that version of the story from spreading by West Coast revisionists.

One reasons Tennessee fans should be disappointed with this sloppy telling of history is that it almost completely discounts a historic game involving the Vols a year earlier.

In 1969, Lester McClain and Jackie Walker (pictured above) started in the Third Saturday in October game and broke the color line at Birmingham's Legion Field (a third black player, Andy Bennett, got into the game as well). Not only that, the Vols handed Bear Bryant's Tide team a 41-14 beatdown that afternoon.

I tell a bit of the tale at Roll Bama Roll today in my scathing review of a book about the 1970 Alabama vs. USC game, One Night, Two Teams.
