Embrace the hate

When the hate turns to pity, that’s when we know we’re out of the picture. Until then, if we’re enough of a threat to earn so much hate, we’re on the right track. Go Vols.

Recruiting

They aren’t nervous for this year’s on the field performance, but I do think they are beginning to worry about the future a little bit as the talent improves to something closer to Florida levels…

From the Black Shoes Diary link
Congratulations, Ohio State. You have a five star quarterback that can’t read defenses. He stares down his receivers, throws off his back foot, and forces passes he has no business throwing.

I couldn’t not comment on that one over there.

It'd be pretty easy (if you have a strong stomach)

“so do we”

and give them the hooper link that refers to Crompton’s class with Mark Sanchez in it and 3-4 no names who busted as well.

Alternative plan for the ACC's new contract:

Stop blowing games on TV to 1-AA outfits.

Eric Berry for sending the guy who wins the Heisman spinning 720 degrees in the air at the podium - or for intercepting it and returning it to where it rightfully belongs

And really, nobody wants to see Maryland play anyway save alumni.

I curse the regional ABC games because it means I’ll get some third-rate game involving teams that have a party when they successfully execute a punt. There’s a good reason the ACC gets no TV love.

The ACC plays football????

I thought that whole ACC contract thing was over the rights to the Duke-Carolina game. ;)

30 Days til UT basketball practice starts, in case you need a distraction this week….
Go Bruuuuce!

The 1970 game between Alabama and USC has been heralded by many (usually Trojan fans) as the contest which lead to the integration of Crimson Tide football. It's nonsense, of course, but that hasn't stopped that version of the story from spreading by West Coast revisionists.

One reasons Tennessee fans should be disappointed with this sloppy telling of history is that it almost completely discounts a historic game involving the Vols a year earlier.

In 1969, Lester McClain and Jackie Walker (pictured above) started in the Third Saturday in October game and broke the color line at Birmingham's Legion Field (a third black player, Andy Bennett, got into the game as well). Not only that, the Vols handed Bear Bryant's Tide team a 41-14 beatdown that afternoon.

I tell a bit of the tale at Roll Bama Roll today in my scathing review of a book about the 1970 Alabama vs. USC game, One Night, Two Teams.
