Tennessee Volunteers lose 13-23 to Florida Gators
Yes, that headline is phrased awkwardly, but it somehow seems appropriate. With the spread at four TDs and most of the national media calling for Urban Meyer to unleash a cruel comeuppance on the idiot Lane Kiffin who can't possibly know what he's doing, yes, a ten point loss with the Vols still in it in the last several minutes is cause for turning the news on its head.
I have to take care of a few things -- should only take a minute -- but then I'll be back to post the immediate post-game ramblings before I retire for the evening to actually enjoy watching some other teams. Meanwhile, use this as the post-game discussion thread because we're nearly blowing the place up with 1700 comments among the two game threads.

Our offense’s inability to move the ball in the 3rd Quarter killed us.
I got punk'd by UT's Athletic Department.
How about our inability to stop tebow run in the third?
Yeah we needed to be able to move the ball and not punt in the third, but our offense played about as good of as a game as they can. Defense fought well, just needed a few more 3rd downs to go our way.

MSU vs ND
Golden Tate picks up 1st down. On the next play…tackles his own guy for a loss
Think about it
1. Gerald Jones doesn’t step out of bounds.
2. Rico McCoy actually hits Tebow on 3rd down.
The game is 17-16 and the VOLS win. Now, Florida certainly wasn’t mistake free and can also play the “what if?” game, but the fact that we can really says something about the way our guys played today.
Also, I’d like to point out that the 3rd quarter has been our nemesis through three games.
1st, 2nd, 4th: 84-23 UT
3rd: 26-7 BAD GUYS
Now, we can also take out the WKU game to get us back to scale:
1st, 2nd, 4th: 28-23 UT
3rd: 19-0 BAD GUYS
The adjustments immediately out of the locker room look to be our weak point right now. The staff seems to be doing everything else right.

I don't mind deferring
If we’re doing this badly when we start out on offense, I’d rather have it at the beginning of the 3rd than have it be the tone-setter for the entire game.

But not out of the gates. I think I’m agreeing with you. But we seem to have about a 10 minute slump before we re-adjust and get things going. Without that slump, we’re 2-0 and playing OT right now.

Boise State humiliated Oregon and has an easy path through the WAC. Expect to see them back in a BCS bowl, and they’ll probably deserve it. They probably won’t win though (unless it’s against the Big East rep).

Re: Florida-Tennessee Football Game
The University of Tennessee is one of our great school rivalries, and the
Florida-Tennessee football match-up is one we eagerly await each year. The
longstanding tradition wouldn’t be what it is today if it weren’t for the
mutual respect and the on-field talent upon which these two schools pride
themselves.
As we cheer on the Gators this weekend, we all need to remember we
represent the Gator Nation. Let’s show the Volunteers what that means by
treating our guests with courtesy and respect when you see them in our
area restaurants as well as in and around Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on
Saturday.
We want the Tennessee players and fans to recall Gainesville as a place
where they faced a determined opponent with friendly, supportive fans.
We’re proud of the successes Urban Meyer and the UF football team have had
in recent years and we wish them the best for the remainder of the season.

because people will put progressively more defenders in the box to stop the run as the season goes on. Culminating in Alabama putting 12 men in the box, because they cheat.
He didn't have much trouble
Taking what was given him today. If they give him the whole field?

It just makes me nervous.
Im trying to chart a middle course between the post WKU euphoria and the post UCLA we’re doomed.
I promise one thing
Georgia won’t put up 42 points. Kiffin and Co will make sure of that. Ground and pound
What do you think?
First team to settle for a field goal loses
Whatever happened to that
Marlon Brown guy?

Has anyone ever seen a game at LSU?
Im thinking of catching the Auburn or Florida games while Im working in LA.
Supposed to be 7PM kickoffs for both
I dont know if I can work in tropical heat all day and see a football game that night, but Id hate to miss a chance to see a game in Death Valley.
What's the record for great games in one day?
Kentucky-Louisville
USC-UDub
Nebraska-VT
Notre Dame-MSU
UGA-Ark
Texas-TTU
WVA-Aub (thru one half)

the defenses should be well rested
having taken 3 quarters off

Quote from Meyer
“I think there’s so much pressure on this team to perform perfectly, which is good,” Meyer said. “I’d rather be on that end than on, ‘Boy, great job. We lost by 10.’ I don’t want to do that. There’s a lot of pressure on these guys and I felt it in there.”
So, will the media replay that little quote 1,000 times between now and next September?
I'm just glad he didn't tack on another 7 points just for kicks
we get a lot more mileage out of 23-13 than we do 30-13.
He was scared
something goofy happens, we run a fumble/pick back, all of a sudden we’re onside kicking and his undefeated season is looking mighty shaky.
I was kinda hoping he'd try
It would’ve been all the more embarrassing when he failed.

Random musings working my way thru the box scores
Florida State ran for 316 yards against BYU

Watching the reactions of the UGA players/coaches on the sideline
when they’re on defense is hilarious

good quotes in that one too

Tell him to keep it.
I refer the right honourable gentleman to the reply I made some time ago.

another great Berry quote:
“At first I was like, ‘Dang, he done got me, y’all,’” Berry said with a smile. “Then I looked at the JumboTron. You can call it what you want. It was a good collision.”
our friends at UCLA
up 10-3 in the second on Kansas State, Kevin Craft has already thrown a pick

When the QB for West Virginia throws it away
he throws it 10 rows into the stands. LEAVE NO DOUBT.

So I went back and looked at the box score for FSU/BYU
Total yards was almost even. But the turnover battle. . .
5-0
That’s your game right there. And that’s why you won’t find me dropping BYU as far as some others may. They’re still a top 20 team, very possibly top 15.

Wow
That fumble no call might’ve just given Georgia the game. I guess it’s karma after the bad call in the Okie State game.

Seriously, Joe Cox
looks like the scrappy guy that fills out your starting five in pickup basketball, not the guy who throws for 5 touchdowns in the SEC

For all you Leach fans
Would Crompton even sniff the field with Stephens’ arm?
He's got his comments up on CBSSports.com though
Lots of backhanded compliments. He still hates us.

I'm about 10 minutes from the border in VA
and I’m not a fan of them either – never seen a fanbase so arrogant with so little to back it up

My job takes me a lot of places
and West Virginia is the only place that lives up to and exceeds every negative stereotype Ive heard.
All of them.
There was a mobile meth lab bust in the parking lot of our hotel the first week. It went downhill from there.
Well, they won't let you make it at home.
What’s up? Where do you all make it?
Never Again. Retire #8 NOW!
I love the state slogan:
“West Virginia: Open For Business” It’s like you wouldn’t know otherwise

That's actually a campaign slogan from the governor.
He took it upon himself to put that crap on the welcome signs. Exactly as you say, it makes it appear that it was somehow closed before.
Never Again. Retire #8 NOW!
Where are you watching this game?
Is it a local game for y’all?
Gonna be close.
Looked like it had to hit the ground, but you can’t really see it hit the ground.
Never Again. Retire #8 NOW!
has to be inconclusive
Looks incomplete, but is it enough?
If he had on a white shirt, it's probably overturned
but it was awful dark in there where he caught it.
Never Again. Retire #8 NOW!
Very good point.
They’ll be wearing white in a couple of weeks.
Mack Brown is already on the phone to the writers in the Big 12 to get Texas bumped up to #1.
Lots of tears involved I’m sure.
Never Again. Retire #8 NOW!
Head to head
Tenn vs Texas Tech…..I’d say Florida gives up a few votes, but they’ll keep it
oy
2 years of misery for that state. This was a better day up there, for sure.

And that's your ball game
Thank you all for the wonderful day! Have a good night, all.
That should do it.
Too many interceptions on screen passes where few guys are left to tackle the interceptor.
Never Again. Retire #8 NOW!
And the game goes to Auburn
Night y’all.
Btw, we should avoid turning it over 5 times against them.
by Incipient_Senescence on Sep 20, 2009 12:07 AM EDT reply actions
Auburn only has 102 yards rushing
They were averaging like a googol or something. Weren’t they?
Never Again. Retire #8 NOW!
As long as they beat Ball State (who lost to Army today)
Auburn will be 4-0 coming to Knoxville for Chizik’s first road game
