The Animated BlogPoll makes like the Fonz and bids you adieu
I have just three things to say:
- Not even Fonzie looked good in jorts.
- What's so dangerous about a boat (as opposed to, you know, a ski-jumper with actual flesh and stuff) flying over a toothy sea creature? Nothing. But the boat looked better, so it jumps the shark.
- So long and thanks for all the fish.

Mr. Manic-Depressive. Awesome.
I actually expected that; the transition from a conventional ballot to a resume ballot in week 3 is never a pretty thing, consistency-wise.

I do have to say, I'll miss this.
But understood.

I'm confused. . .
Did you get kicked out for having a crazy ballot? Or is this just melodrama for winning Mr. Manic-Depressive?
Also, I told you to adjust for Arizona State.

No, I'm not kicked out.
This is Joel’s way of saying that he’s not doing the Animated BlogPoll anymore. It seems to have run its course and is probably time to move on. I’ve always loved it, though; it’s kind of sad to me.
Re: ASU. Perhaps I should have. I’m still totally torn on that one. I’d like to have a better way of handling early-season oddballs. But, oddly enough, they actually have a better strength of schedule right now than Florida (albeit only slightly), and their defensive metrics are better (by considerable margins at the moment). I fully expect the UGA game this weekend to take care of them, though.
But yeah, perhaps I should have.

You could wait an extra week and just throw out all results from games against I-AA opponents. That might help some.

Throwing out the 1-AA results isn't practical.
The NCAA data has it all added together, so I’d have to go through and manually excise it. Michigan isn’t paying me to do that yet.
With SOS, though, I do discard Colley’s 1-AA group-teams from the list. The games still affect the scores of the 1-A teams, but the 1-AA rankings themselves aren’t included in the mean and standard deviation calculations. That does improve things to a modest degree.
I have thought, however, of simply exempting any team from the ballot who has not played a majority schedule of 1-A teams. It would have meant that Florida was not ranked until just this week, but that might be a more defensible stance. It’s also a lot easier to do and only needs to be done in the first 3-5 weeks of the season.

Is Virginia paying you to do that yet?
Eric Berry for sending the guy who wins the Heisman spinning 720 degrees in the air at the podium - or for intercepting it and returning it to where it rightfully belongs

You made me a Vol
This was my favorite feature, and I probably learned more about Tennessee football by “accident” when coming to see the Animated Poll than I ever did growing up in Kingsport. Peace out, ABP!
