That actually made me feel a little bit better about the game.
I hadn’t realized that they were dealing with so much youth as well. That should – should – amplify the homecrowd effect.
Also, the only opponent with a significant offense – West Virginia – ran over their defense except for a kajillion turnovers. They had only 2 punts, but also had 2 drives to end the halves and 6 total turnovers, including one immediately after Auburn’s only turnover. Those turnovers led to 24 points by Auburn, including 7 points on a pick-six. And Auburn punted 5 times themselves out of 12 possessions (not including the pick-six. They had some really nice drives mixed in there, but it’s not like they were a juggernaut against West Virginia.
As I said, it makes me feel better. But I’m still going to be edgy when kickoff comes.

Now that I look back on it,
They did a really nice job against Miss. State. That should definitely be noted. The Auburn offense started slowly in both games, but really picked up around the second quarter. I wonder if that’s a theme.

Just a guess
I haven’t watched any of their games yet, but the Malzahn m.o. is up-tempo, lots of formations, lots of plays. It would make sense for it to be most productive in the 2nd and 4th quarters after making the defense run around a lot. I’m pulling that out of thin air though, so YMMV.

Sounds right to me.
I think he also does a good job adjusting to defenses. It’ll be an interesting chess match on Saturday. I like our odds on that side of the ball, though.
Also, you can see the West Virginia interceptions on the SEC Digital Network website (here). Scroll down for the ‘Highlights’ video of Auburn and West Virginia. Full credit to Auburn for the INTs, but those were some mighty bad throws. Soft floaters into double or triple coverage while defenders were reading the qb.

Do you know if he's a modular playbook kinda guy, like Leach?
That is: does he construct a lot of plays by assembling the same basic routes in different formations? Leach’s skill players only learn about 5 routes or so, but he does a great job of hiding the routes by a jillion different formations; I was wondering if Malzahn used the same trick to increase his playcount.
