Financially, times are difficult....but....
I surely hope that we can fill Neyland Stadium against Auburn. I just received (8pm, Tuesday) an email from UT Athletics with the information that "a limited number of tickets still remain" for the game this Saturday. Of course there won't be any wide swaths of empty seats as in the Ohio game, but it would be great if we had a good, old fashioned SELL OUT; not only for this game but for the game against Georgia next weekend, too.

That's pretty sad
I wish I still lived in Tennessee.

I'll be there
But yes, I’ve been sad to see those emails.

I'd like to know more about why people aren't selling Neyland out.
There are three factors I can see immediately (in no order):
(a) economy
(b) continued apathy/burnout
© pro-Fulmer resentment
Actually, if I were to guess, I’d guess that the importance is in the order listed, but I really can’t say that for sure.
did you copyright that term??
;-)
Tennessee WILL beat Georgia on the way to 9+ wins in '09!!!

One thing you have to consider
The emergence of the Tennessee Titans in the past 5-10 years as a legitimate football option. A lot of UT fans and Alumni live in the Nashville area. It takes much less planning and effort to get your football fix on a sunday and be home by 5 or 6. And you can buy beer in the stadium. Just another thought to consider.
"I can't hear you, Rocky Top is playing."
Interesting point.
Hadn’t really thought of the NFL as a true competitor to college football, but it would explain the Northeast.
Lowering ticket prices
Lowering ticket prices would be really fair to the people who have already bought tickets.
Do it like they did in the 60’s, give them to bands, high school football teams, and fill it up.
Lower ticket prices, add beer
I’m not an advocate for this idea but Memphis did it. In their first game, they made as much money on beer as they budgeted for in the entire year. (Of course, if you’ve seen Memphis play….)
Again, I hate the idea of having beer spilled on my back as people navigate the tight aisles but it’s an alternative to getting lower prices…
Re: beer
A few years ago (2006?) they nearly added beer sales to TBA before it got kaiboshed by dry-campus protests. I would think they’d have more luck trying to add beer to TBA before Neyland. But it would certainly increase revenues, and I’m not sure how much longer the blue law types can keep it out.
(ftr, I teetotall, but I have seen far more responsible drinking in arenas from concession sales than from smuggled swill..)
Hooray Beer
yes, they should sell beer! for that matter, they should also get rid of the “dry campus” lunacy… Tell me, by having a dry campus, doesn’t it just force kids to go OFF campus thus adding transportation to the equation? yes. college kids are going to drink. might as well let them do it on campus, where at the very least, there is a modicum of supervision.
