NCAA 10: Tennessee 50: WKU 0
Dominating Defense, and 2 Defensive TDs, led the way for Tennessee's annihlation of Western Kentucky. Crompton was horrible but freshmen were all over the place in the victory, though Captain Crunch (who, interesting note, is named XXXX Berry because I forgot to put in his first name, but I kinda like it soo) had only 2 tackles and 1 TFL, which was all because of WKU's complete fear of going anywhere near him.
Full Summary after the Jump.
NCAA FOOTBALL 2010
Western Kentucky won the toss and elected to receive. They started at the 23 yard line. On the fifth play of the game, WKU did a speed option on 3rd down and 2. Chris Walker chased down the QB, stripped the ball out and Gerald Williams picked it up. 43 yards later he was in the end zone. After a challenge , the play stands. TOUCHDOWN TENNESSEE. 7-0 3:45 left in the 1st.
Next drive started from the 27 yard line. A 3rd down and 2 speed option this time resulted in a loss of 2. Punt, Tennessee ball at their 42 yard line. On play 2, after a dive play gained just 1 yard, Crompton found Nu’Keese on the left sideline after a rollout. Richardson juked a defender and got down to the 15 yard line. Next play Stoker dropped a pass in coverage on the goal line. Boo! Two handoffs by Brown led to a TOUCHDOWN. (Gains of 7 and 8). 14-0 Tennessee 2:10 left in the first.
Next drive started at the 29. An incompletion, and a Dan Williams busting up an option for a loss of 5 left WKU with a 3rd down and 15. A 12 yard pass was dropped. Punt, Nu’Keese caught it at the 37 and made a wonderful juke move to get the ball to UT’s 46.
Oku ran twice, the first for a loss of one and then a gain of 6. Crompton overthrew Brandon warren on 3rd down. Punt Tennessee Punt. Touchback. (What a punt!)
A dive went nowhere, and then a sweep was just SHUT DOWN by Anderson. 3rd down an 10. Incompletion, punt, UT’s ball at the 45 yard line.
Hardesty lost 3 on the first play. END OF THE FIRST QUARTER. Crompton had a bad pass over the middle, overthrowing Hancock. 3rd down and 13 saw the Pahokee Package come out. Incomplete pass led to a second straight 3 and out. Punt was downed at the 2 yard line!
McCoy ripped through the line off of a Zone read play and got the Safety. 16-0 TENNESSEE 4:39 left in the half. Oku returned the free-kick to WKU’s 47.
Bryce took the first play on a HB stretch and zipped down to WKU 3 yard line. Great blocking on the play. Hardesty scored next play running in untouched. 23-0 Vols 4:16 left in the half.
WKU started from the 30. On second down the QB ran for 15. Two plays later, though, Big Dan Williams was in the backfield wrapping him up for a loss of 5. 3rd down and 15. Incomplete pass led to a punt. Ball was returned to the 37 yard line.
Hardesty was again brought down for a loss on 1st down. Crompton threw another incompletion and it was 3rd and 12. Nu’Keese dropped a first down completion when he was hit, 4th down. On the punt, Dennis Rogan forced a fumble and Mike Edwards picked it up to run in for a 20-yard TOUCHDOWN. 30-0 Vols 2:27 left in the half. The XP was almost blocked.
The next WKU drive started at the 25. On 3rd and 9 Edwards got beat in man-coverage up to the 50 yard line. They’d get a gain of 12 on 2nd and 11 on a pass. On 3rd and 7 they threw another completion, but netted 0 yards. They’d go for it, 4th and 7 from the Tennessee 35. A completion went for 6 yards, looked like it would be a first down before a great tackle along the sidelines by McCoy. UT ball at the 30 with 33 seconds left in the half.
Crompton almost threw a pick and Brown was then stopped for a loss of 3. Brown then caught a lazer pass for a gain of 14 to convert the first down. Crompton again almost threw a pick, but the next play Oku went from the 4-wide shotgun to go out like a WR, the defense blitzed and Oku made them play to the tune of a 59 yard TD catch. 37-0 TENNESSEE :07 seconds left in the half.
Tennessee would start the second half at their own 38 yard line (a short kickoff). 3 runs by Hardesty led to about 17 yards, but he went down with a minor injury. So, Bryce comes in! On 3rd down and 8 Warren caught a 10 yard hook pass to move the chains. Brown fumbled the next play after a gain of 8, WKU takes over at the 15 yard line.
However, 2 plays later Janzen Jackson made a great interception on a not a smart throw, and Tennessee had the ball back at the 22. Cottam gained 7 next play, and with Oku lined up as FB he took the handoff down to the 5 yard line. Crompton was sacked next play for a loss of 4. Hardesty, back in, took the next handoff for a TD but was called back via a holding penalty. 2nd and goal from the 20 yard line. Cooper then dropped a WIDE OPEN pass, he might have scored if he catches it. 3rd and goal from the 20. Crompton had Brown wide open on the left side next play, but was sacked before he got the ball off. Lincoln would drop in a 45 yard field goal, 40-0 Tennessee 1:41 left in the 3rd.
WKU got the ball at the 30 (Lincoln made the tackle!) and yes, their 30. 2 plays behind the line of scrimmage and WKU faced a 3rd down and 16. Incompletion because of pressure, Punt time! Returned up to the UT 47.
A holding call made it 2nd and 17 for Tennessee, and Crompton threw an incompletion. Next play? INT off a great catch by the Impact CB for WKU. Not that bad of a pass, though. WKU ball at their 39.
2 runs netted 2 uards for WKU, and they would face a 3rd and 8 going into the 4th quarter. A bubble screen only gained 2, and WKU line up to punt again. Tennessee took over at the 31 yard line.
Brown took 2 yards to get to the WKU 40 yard line, Hardesty came in and picked up 15. 1st and 10 from WKU 26 yard line. Oku gained 9 next play, then 6 the next. Brown came in and lost 1 next play, and Crompton was sacked for a big loss next play. 3rd down and 23 from the 24, and sacked AGAIN next play. Lincoln would hit a 43 yard field goal, 43-0 TENNESSEE with 2:09 left in the game.
WKU’s next drive would start from the 28 yard line. More great D led to a 3rd and 15, and pressure forced an incompletion for a punt. Richardson returned the punt to the 50.
Brown gained 12 and got over 100 yards for the game. A clipped call brought back an 11 yard Oku run. No big deal, he’d pick up 9 next play and 12 the next. Hardesty was having a hard time getting going in this game, until he took a handoff in for a 20 yard TD run. TENNESSEE 50-0 with :08 left in the game.
A final Hail Mary attempt resulted in a sack. Final score Tennessee 50, Western Kentucky 0.
Game Summary: Crompton was horrid. Really, really horrid. He would finish 5-16 for 135 yards (59 on the Oku pass) and 1 INT (which wasn’t his fault, but a few of his passes should have been intercepted.).
The ground game, however, was great. Bryce Brown was the highlight, taking 12 carries for 109 yards (9.0 a pop) and a TD, Hardesty added 57 yards and 2 TDs on 11 carries (5.1 a shot) and Oku carried 7 times for 49 yards. (You can figure that one out.)
Lamarcus Thomson and Gerald Williams were absolute beasts, with 8 tackles and 4 and 5 TFL, respectively. Tennessee finished with 17 TFL’s. Eric Berry had only 2 tackles and 1 TFL, but most of that was due to the front 7 stuffing the rush and no deep passes. Gerald Williams and Mike Edwards both returned fumbles for TDs.

Wow.
It sounds like NCAA doesn’t think Crompton will be much different from last year.
Here’s hoping everything’s as stellar as the simulation – only with the Crompton we’re hoping to see.

actually
he’s an 87 overall, which somewhat boggled me.
A lot of dropped passes and a LOT of pressure.

Well, you have to give it to EA
they don’t spare anybody’s feelings. When we’ve been worried about pass protection, they took it to heart.

Good stuff.
My Tecmo Bowl said the same thing.

I changed this game out to play against CREAM! in my dynasty.
But I’ll have some fun results to post once we get to Auburn and South Carolina.

I have the updated UT roster
With most of the starters right.. put it all in by hand, also upped a few player’s stats. Still a B+ team w/ A- defense.

Yeah, mine has the old roster.
It was fun getting Creer the Heisman. He shouldn’t have transferred. ;)

Just out of curiousity
How much have you jacked the UT roster? I know EA has them severely underrated, but I know if I try to adjust it myself, my bias will show through and the team will end up all 99’s.

I didn't touch the roster at all.
Really, progressions are freaking out of control anyway (provided you haven’t patched already) so that makes up for it in a hurry.
It also helps if you recruit like the chimera – first recruiting class was all 5-stars and 4-stars. None of this three-star junk. ;)

I'm horrid at recruiting.
What’s the secret?

Some random tips that I use:
- Hit the big pitches (the ones UT gets A+ in) early. Figure out what the recruits want to hear and feed it to them like candy.
- Sway Pitch is a bit overpowered for the time spent on it, provided you’re successful.
- Offering a scholarship will nearly max out the interest bar for that recruit, so if you’re going to offer, pretty much just do that one week.
- Hard sell anything A/A+ and high / very high / most; you can also hard sell B+ / most, but anything else is going to use too much time.
- Don’t bring someone in until you know what they want to see (i.e., you have three A/A+ high / very high / most), and bring them in against a patsy. I brought in about half my recruits for South Carolina last year, for example.
Advanced tip:
- if you see someone’s a soft commit somewhere else and you can get them on-campus that week, do it. You may be able to snake their commit – I did that a couple times last year.

Another advanced tip:
Talk like Orgeron at the TV when you’re in the recruiting area. It works. ;)

Hmmm
I do most all of that, and yet i’m usually stuck with a 10-25ish recruiting class.
Here’s the plan, gang: Is Recruiting Coordinator, I’ll be offensive coordinator, and Jackson the Mule can be D-Coordinator / Head Coach.

Who's recruiting coordinator?
Also, one additional thing: drop someone as soon as you drop out of their considered (i.e., if you’re 6th and he’s at top 5, drop him) – it’s not worth your time.
Early on, I tend to try and hit everyone, then focus on a few people in particular. Later on, it’s just focus on the individual.

It's still a B+ overall
Though I think it plays a lot more like an A- – A team to be honest.
Brown and Hardesty are both 92’s, Oku is like an 87ish — I think I’m going to find that I haven’t been fair to all our WRs. The defense wasn’t touched much at all, really, but did bump up the coverage stats on most of the Freshmen, and a few others.
The download link can be found here. If you notice any problems with the roster / starters, lemme know and I’ll fix :-) I know there are errors, just too lazy to go and fix them unless someone wants me to :-P

Hey, a question for you gamers.
Does EA let you adjust a player’s knowledge of the playbook? Can you have the freshmen know, say, 50% of the playbook and be clueless on the rest? That could get really interesting if you forget that that young left guard doesn’t know he’s supposed to pull block for a reverse or something…
by Hooper on Sep 8, 2009 10:10 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
nope
That’s done via the “Awareness” stat more than anything, which shows a player’s sense of where everyone is on the field, as well as where the ball is. So an offensive lineman with low awareness might not realize he needs to change his block when the RB decides to cut left, etc. They have added a lot of stuff like “route running” and stuff like that in recent versions to award players who have sound fundamentals.
