I’ve listened to just about every Lane interview since he left. He has consistently regurgitated what he said at the USC presser. So, I was in shock by this quote, and just found a stream of the Rome show from Friday to check it.

This quote is a fabrication. It appears to have been started on a Crimson Tide board. Paraphrasing - the most unusual thing that Kiff said is that “Hamilton knew when he hired Kiff that if USC every called, Kiff would have a hard time saying no.” Rome really grilled him for a while about the recruiting, and Kiff repeated the same lines, “we will not recruit Tenn commits unless they contact us. most of those players live close to Tenn, and USC already has a great class going, if they call us and say they aren’t going to Tenn, then we may pursue them”, etc. Then, after more Rome grilling, Kiff said ,“recruiting was down, there was a lack of excitement, so we had to recruit nationally to get the kinds of players we wanted, and alot of those players were not coming to Tenn for the color of their uniforms, they were coming to play for Lane, Monte, and Ed. But, as you can see from some of the decommits, they are not coming to USC. They are waiting to see who the new coach is. A lot of those players may stay at Tenn, but it depends on the new coach. He may have different guys that he wants to go after.”

I was paraphrasing the above. And, not that it will change your thoughts about Kiff. But, he in no way slammed you guys and it is definitely an Internet lie that he said “yellow uniforms.” FWIW.
