Jevan Snead and Tim Tebow making mistakes?
Around the SB Nation today:
- Team Speed Kills says that Jevan Snead has made a mistake in declaring early for the NFL draft.
- Alligator Army is critical of Tim Tebow's decision to do a Super Bowl commercial for Focus on the Family. Not me. It's completely in line with his character, and he shouldn't change that just based on the size and scope of his audience.
- Finally, after an 18-game winning streak, A Sea of Blue decides to banish Mr. Critic and just enjoy the Wildcats' fantastic run.
- After three consecutive losses, Hammer and Rails says it's time for Purdue fans to stop worrying about seeding and start focusing on one game at a time, starting with tonight's game against Illinois.
- Clemson blog Shakin the Southland and Georgia Tech blog From the Rumble Seat exchange Q&As in advance of tonight's matchup between two top 20 teams.

I completely agree with you Joel regarding Tebow and his Super Bowl ad
Tim Tebow feels more strongly about his beliefs than he does about his potential marketability. Give me a break… I surprised to read an article like that on AlligatorArmy. I thought they would know him better than that.
Hey, finally something where I can support Tebow!
I’ll still never forgive him for that 4th and 2 back in ’06 though.
Also, looking at the comments on AA, it seems that the opinions on whether this is a good or bad thing for Tebow is split 100% along the lines of whether people think that Focus on the Family is a lunatic fringe group or a sensible organization with a good message.

Any organization that believes you can "cure the gay"
is a fringe organization in my book.

right
they are missing the point. Regardless of who is funding the ad, it wouldn’t change the fact that he is still promoting a polarizing opinion on a very public platform. The article is about his involvement, not in his belief

Yeah the point is a bit unclear in the post itself, they clear it up in the comments
And I agree, I could care less what he himself believes, but when it comes to supporting a pretty polarizing political group with a polarizing agenda that is pretty un-p.c. he should be careful.
But I dont think it will affect his income or anything in the NFL unless he outwardly begins campaigning against homosexuality. Even then the NFL is generally very homophobic, but that fact is kept pretty hush-hush.
I also wouldnt be surprised if he really doesnt know the full implications of Focus on the Family’s political stance. He was probably offered to do an anti-abortion piece but had little knowledge of all of their agenda.

"I also wouldnt be surprised if he really doesnt know the full implications of Focus on the Family’s political stance."
I have a hard time buying that. He’s a Gator, but he ain’t stupid.

Tim Tebow is more than welcome to do anything he chooses
with his time. However, all choices have consequences. The choice to align himself with Focus on the Family, will alienate himself from over 50% of the population.
It causes someone such as myself to lose respect for him. There is a difference between being conservative (which I can respect) and being a whack job (which I cannot). Tim Tebow has chosen to align himself with the hardcore folks out there, and it will probably cost him some money at the next level.
I’m a little confused as to why you are saying “It’s completely in line with his character, and he shouldn’t change that just based on the size and scope of his audience.” That’s exactly what you do. You don’t change your values, unless you evolve as a person, but you should always change the approach to how you handle certain issues based on your circumstance. Atleast that’s what successful people do. They adapt without compromising their core beliefs.
In the latest poll on the issue his commercial will be tackling, abortion, only 18% of Americans support his view that abortion should always be illegal.
Quinnipiac University Poll. Jan. 5-11, 2010. N=1,767 registered voters nationwide. MoE ± 2.3.
Im I correct in assuming that
We now have to give some respect to Bama and UGA because our new coach is so close to both programs ? At least we can still hate the gators….right ?
If you can't be kind at least be vague. Go Vols !
Tim Tebow
is an adult and can do anything he wishes to do concerning politics, etc. People are ok with stars and athletes joining moveon.org or some other left wing extreme group. Like always, its not ok if they join a right leaning group.
Thanks, Tebow, for obliterating our 'no politics' zone on this blog.
Given the topic at hand, let’s go ahead and declare this particular thread safe for this discussion – so long as the discussion remains focused on the Tebowmercial topic and doesn’t stray into Kos/O’Reilly land.
/heads off complaints about politics on blog
Yeah !! This is a powder Keg in a room full of chain smokers !
I would have my finger on the kill switch ; )

I'm staying away from this regardless.

Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...
Focus on the Family:
Yeah, aligning yourself with a “christian” group who some ban from entering their churches (this is from personal experience, no sources!) isn’t a good thing. I definitely do lose a lot of respect for Tebow for showing public support to a group who has taken such ridiculous stances in the past. Make no mistake, I think the guy is most likely an awesome dude, as are most people in Focus on the Family, but some of their comments should have led them to a public lynching.
I somewhat compare this to (and don’t think too much about it, Tebow is nothing this bad, this is just an extreme example) the US Department of Labor speaking good things about Hitler because the latter got rid of unemployment completely.
Tennessee Fans: We win at teh Internet!
Yep there we go. Bring old Hitler and the US goverment in this !!
One good abortion missed and one thats getting ready to abort .

I just
refuse to dislike someone because of their political/relgious beliefs unless they are crude and rude about it.
Ugh
Really prefer the no politics zone here.
FWIW, I think there’s a difference between saying “you can’t do that” and “it’s a dumb PR move for you to do that.”
And so FWIW, I think it’s a dumb PR move for him to do the ad.
You're full of crap.
Really dumb move
Sponsorships, sponsorships, sponsorships.
All politics aside, that’s what he needs to be thinking about because he sure isn’t gonna get a huge QB contract in the NFL…..
He’s gonna alienate half the population with that, but moreso, he’s gonna alienate a lot of potential sponsors
But hey, it’s his money…..

I think...
allowing this discussion is a mistake. I don’t want to know how most of you feel about religion/politics, because my feelings on those subjects are very, very stong. I don’t want to change the feelings of Vol-togetherness I have with fellow RTTers because they have said something that offends me.
So….see yall on another thread!
