I hate early Sunday games

Costs me $2.50 to take the 23-minute trip home instead of the 30-40 (depends on traffic), and even when I do get back in time for the game, I miss the last half of the sermon wondering whether he’ll finish in time for me to head home.

by Incipient_Senescence on Jan 31, 2010 12:55 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

It’s hard to get “up” this early in the day. Hopefully, our guys do it better than I do.

There are things more important than basketball.

I’d wait through the sermon but that’s just me. The nice part about missing the first few minutes of a game is that there’s still a ton of time left when you get back.

Unless the team is within the borders of Tennessee, he needs to focus inside.

And I was just thinking that with how well Maze is penetrating, he needs to start kicking it out, too. Of course, he just did that and threw it out of bounds, so . . .

I actually wasn't a big fan of that.

He was doubled (note the two guys going after him on the shot) and we had an open shot on the near side of the court. It worked out, but I’d almost rather him dish out in that scenario.

I don't know

Nobody else can create, except for J.P. Scotty needs to be more aggressive. Him double-teamed is sometimes better than someone else just covered.

Rocky Top Talk

Yeah

He should. But he needs both to be a complete player, and I think his main problem right now is confidence, aggression.

Rocky Top Talk

by Joel Hollingsworth on Jan 31, 2010 1:25 PM EST up reply actions

I would think Hopson's issue is consistency.

Until he gets that consistency, he won’t have the confidence in his shot – but he needs to be able to have the ability to trust in his teammates. While that shot’s good from close, if he has four defenders crashing down on him he should be able to recognize someone’s open.

In time, though.

More football news:

Austin Ward is reporting that John Probst (3*, WVU commit) has committed to UT. I continue to worry, because I think that this means we either have no shot with some of the big names left on our board (Ambles, Rogers, Stone) or that some of our desperately needed guys are leaving (please, Copeland, we NEED DTs!).

It's 25 in a given year

But a couple mid-termers can be back-counted to last year. I think the SEC rule says that you can still only have 28. But for some reason, I keep hearing that 27 is our limit. I don’t know why it’s not 28, but that’s what all the recruiting articles are saying.

I had a thought: “I wonder if they put Gus Johnson on this game for Chandler Parsons’ final shot”. I hate getting thoughts like that.

I'm not sure a 1-point, last-second win really masks our problems

Obviously, I’m ecstatic to win this game. But this level of play will not beat Miss St., UK (x2), at Vandy, at USC, at Florida, etc.

No, I agree with you.

However, sometimes you need to win games where you don’t play your best….or anywhere near it. That was the case today, and Florida has shown it’s a pretty good team.

Anyone want to take a stab at how Bertelkamp sounded at the end?

Can’t wait for the audio/video highlights in a few.

Wow

what a win. CBS originally showed Hopson’s shot as a three, so even when Tyus had that great look I thought worst case we were headed to OT, but when they showed it was a two, I just had to think it was our day, because that was a great look, and Tyus hadn’t missed that all day.

It's simple Cubs in the spring and summer, Vols in the fall and winter.

by cubvol on Jan 31, 2010 3:14 PM EST reply actions

I know!

I didn’t even see that it was a 2, so when Tyus’s shot went up, I wasn’t freaking out.

Good Game?

I have found I enjoy these close games a lot better if we win. I liked this one.
