Fulmer, Carroll on the Coaching Carousel?
John Pennington on the possibility of Phillip Fulmer going to South Florida...and if Pete Carroll goes to the Seahawks, as Chris Mortensen is talking about, what happens at USC?

not a bad fit, really
He knows Cali well and he’s been quite successful at OSU. Factor in the coolness of going to USC relative to OSU, and it projects well.
Mortensen on NFL Live
says it would now be considered a surprise if Carroll isn’t in Seattle next season
If Carroll did leave USC, a few recruits would be potentially in play for UT.
Especially if the new hire is of a different schematic persuasion than Carroll – offense or defense.
This is way down the line
But my Uncle said that he wanted his son playing for someone in a Norm Chow derivative system. That left USC, UCLA, Washington, and Tennessee. The kid grew up cheering for USC (their resurgence roughly coincided with his interest in football, and Delaware doesn’t have a major college program), but USC may not have a Norm Chow offensive system anymore. Of course, he’s still in middle school, so who knows what the coaches will do in the next four years and what he will do in the next four years, but the kid’s supposed to be the #1 recruit in his class.
More immediately, it would be a few USC commits in play. I wonder if Scroggins is one of them?

Anybody else really get the feeling they wont see Fulmer coaching next year either?
I really though UVA or Louisville would be places he would end up, but I dont see him fitting at USF or Tech or really any of the other positions that are open

His best chance is places like USF that have "image problems" with their head coach
In spite of the Fulmer Cup, Phillip was and is an upstanding guy with recognized moral character, etc. But everybody is so focused on going younger and finding the next guy instead of the last guy, I’m not sure it’s out there for him either. I can’t picture him taking an assistant job anywhere either. I hope the right option presents itself for him, but if not, I hope he doesn’t jump at the wrong one just for the sake of coaching again.
The awkward part is that the longer it takes Fulmer to land a job, the more Hamilton appears justified.
Even though Fulmer’s firing and subsequent hiring are not as strongly related as some would claim, it does make people wonder if Hamilton dismissed a guy nobody else would want. And that’s an unfair criticism.
But so far, I haven’t seen a job I think works well for him, and I wonder how much of that is because I’m so used to seeing him as a Tennessee guy, and how much is because the right job hasn’t come around yet.
