Exhibit A: It was a 15-yard illegal participation penalty

One of the many questions about last night's Music City Bowl was whether the penalty on North Carolina to end regulation should have been illegal substitution (a five yard penalty) or illegal participation (a 15 yard penalty). The officials called illegal substitution, but thanks to an alert reader, we have Exhibit A in the Case To Prove Illegal Participation. (Actually it was probably both, but when your eyes are full of chaos, it's hard to see clearly. It's why magicians blow things up or trot out a somersaulting gorilla just at the time they're doing something else they don't want you to see.) (And yeah, this is necessary for my mental health. ;-) )
