College Gameday & SEC Basketball Open Thread
Rupp Arena is supposedly sold out at 24,000+ for both tonight's game, and this morning's live College Gameday on ESPN. The show will air live from Rupp at 11:00 AM and again at 8:00 PM, and John Calipari and John Wall are scheduled to be on set.
The Vols and Cats are the only Top 25 matchup in college basketball today, but five SEC matchups and a big non-conference opportunity for Florida highlight today's schedule:
- LSU at #24 Vanderbilt - 1:30 PM - SEC Network
- Arkansas at Alabama - 4:00 PM - SEC Network
- South Carolina at Georgia - 4:00 PM - SEC Network
- Xavier at Florida - 6:00 PM - ESPN
- Auburn at Mississippi State - 7:00 PM - Fox Sports South
- #12 Tennessee at #2 Kentucky - 9:00 PM - ESPN
If you're watching Gameday or any of the action today (you know, instead of moguls and ski jumping), leave your comments here...we'll have the live thread for Tennessee and Kentucky later tonight as always.

Lexington is insane right now...at work this morning
you’d think they were playing for the national title…Crazy.
Life is tough, you’re going to get knocked down a bunch, and the quicker you learn to deal with how you react to it and dust your britches off and move forward, then the quicker you’re going to lead to happiness. -Coach Dooley
I'm curious if they're even going to talk about Tennessee
which really, that’s fine if they don’t, I’d rather be overlooked at this point
Yea, I saw that
After ya’ll see him play tonight, you’ll see why!
"You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't"
When they interviewed him on Gameday before the 1-2 Memphis game two years ago
he also didn’t talk about Tennessee at all.
I would love nothing more than to break up this love-fest tonight. It’s not like Kentucky is playing LSU today – we’re 12th in the nation and they’re not going to talk about us at all.
seriously
this is just a big kentucky love fest. keep it up. let that team think they’re just showing up for a fashion show.

Leave it to ESPN to make us want to win a game much much worse than we already did.
Seems like I have felt this way before……

I'm with ya
That was a great scene there, no doubt, but it would be . . . can’t even find a good enough word . . . beating them there tonight.

I was at the game at Rupp last year
and there were probably around 100-200 UT fans in the building…not sure we’ll see that number today

i don't live too far away
and I wanted to go, but ticket prices were more than i’ve ever seen them for a UT game there. Astronomical

there is a big orange caravan that is going
part of the fundraiser that Dane Bradshaw is endorsing. They have tickets along the top rim of the arena. but a round-trip bus ticket, meal, and tickets to the game were still $400..

I sat on the next to last row in the upper deck last year for $50
Today I’d probably have to pay that to get into gameday this morning.
I respect their passion – I lived in Lexington all summer and will be there again this fall for school, and I always got the looks I expected when I wore orange, even in the offseason.

i've always liked kentucky
and it’s an absolute shame that Calipari is their coach, because now, I hate that team

Based on the comments, I'm glad I'm not watching this.
Simulated Gameday Experience - just like the real thing, only we have smoke machines.
I hope our whole team was watching
I don’t even think they mentioned Bruce Pearl’s name the whole hour.
did they even talk about us??
I tuned in after about 10 minutes and never heard us even mentioned

It's Funny
Every time I go to a Tennessee and Kentucky Football game Iam always surrounded by Kentucky Fans shouting how great they are in Basketball. I hope no one ever throws a Basketball on the Football field cause we shure would be in a heap trouble. Go Vols !!!!!! Old Smokey
volman
You have a point there-
Did you hear, we hired Tee Martin to be our receivers coach?
"You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't"
Kansas newspaper taking shots at Kentucky today
maybe this will create a little animosity should the two meet in the Final Four
Heh.
Just another hater. There seems to be an awful lot of those in Kansas, these days.
Well, all I can say is, get in line. :-)
A Sea of Blue -- Kentucky Sports for the Discerning Fan
I watched the last 30 min
of the show and not once did they mention UT. And if they talk about that stupid John Wall dance one more time I might puke. No mention of Bruce Pearl, no mention of Wayne Chism’s ankle. Man it is gonna be extremely tough to get, but a win tonight would be so sweet.
It's simple Cubs in the spring and summer, Vols in the fall and winter.
You know the most surprising thing?
I am not surprised by the lack of mention at all. Not one bit.

Advance notice
we’re still working on how to integrate all of this, but we have a fan page on Facebook now, if you’re interested.
Vandy up 59-57 with 5:14 to play
an LSU win and a UT win, an unlikely duo though it may be, would really bunch everything together at the top of the leaderboard
Had to expect a letdown after they thrashed the Vols on Tuesday
But it has been rather uninspired. Looks like they’ll survive.
Vandy 77-69 final
if the Vols finish 3rd in the SEC East, they’re going to get LSU in the first round of the SEC Tournament in Nashville, which I still say should be an automatic win

gonna be a great game tonight gang...
good luck of course, just not THAT good…
Steelers fan 1st! UK is my 2nd love.
And Georgia took down another SEC East team at home
I think that makes them 3-0 in Athens against divisional rivals.

About you guys talking about how much you hate Kentucky now that Cal is here...
we love the hate, we embrace it, wouldn’t even have it any other way. The hate shows we’re back where we belong—on top.
by UKalltheway2010 on Feb 13, 2010 6:56 PM EST reply actions
no, it just shows that Calipari is a despicable person
I didn’t hate Kentucky when they were good before. I rooted for them in the tournament. Now I hope they lose all of their games
If he came back to your school, a traditional power...
and brought it back to prominence and a number 1 ranking, could you say the same thing?
by UKalltheway2010 on Feb 13, 2010 7:05 PM EST up reply actions
please go on?
the two schools calipari has been the head coach, he’s left them in serious trouble with the ncaa. he is a dirtball. if i were a kentucky fan, i would be worried. he’s going to bounce to the nba after too long, and leave UK is ruble.
We don't think so-
He’s got the best coaching job in America, he can win there, and he is paid very well…
"You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't"
Hey-
He loves the spotlight and all the attention. A lot of coaches have big egos. I’ve seen Bruce get a little carried away at times…Not to mention your ex Lane…
"You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't"
you hate pearl
we hate cal…it’s how it works. I have great respect for Kentucky, as do most UT fans – the extra venom is from Cal’s behavior towards us when he was at Memphis
by Will Shelton on Feb 13, 2010 7:48 PM EST up reply actions
I don't hate Bruce-
Or anyone else for that matter. I have great respect for Tennessee. I’ve been married to a Big Orange fan for 28 years. My brother in laws are huge UT fans. I live and work in Big Orange country. My oldest daughter is a grad student at UT Chattanooga. I think a good rivalry is what makes college sports what they are… I was born and raised in KY. and we are proud of our team… That’s all…
"You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't"
yeah, and he's a cheater.
that’s great attention. you think that he’s at UK, so now he’s changed? like UK is on some other level, oh wait, there have been cheaters at UK before. He won’t run things any different than he did at UMass or Memphis.
There are cheaters-
Anywhere there is big money involved. Doesn’t make it right…But, I’m just one fan…
