Mychal Rivera is Officially a Volunteer!

Confirmation from Brent Hubbs ($)

One of the most recent commits to Tennessee has made his intentions official and will sport the Orange next year as a Volunteer tight end!

Rivera was originally an Oregon commit of the class of 2008, but transferred to College of the Canyons after redshirting his freshman year.  Having used one redshirt and one JUCO year, he now has three years of remaining eligibility and three years in which to use them.  Mychal stands 6'-4" and weight 240 lbs, which is a bit smaller than the Stocker/Cottam builds that Tennessee is accustomed to, but certainly larger than the Brandon Warren FSU tight end mold.

His 4.5 speed is good for a tight end.  While I worry a bit about his size in blocking situations, I think he should fit in well as a receiver.  The extra two years outside of high school will help him acclimate quickly to Tennessee and to Division 1 play..
