I know there's limited time
But based on the class we got and what we know about the new coaches and the present state of the program, does anyone want to comment on the “3-5 year rebuilding process” meme? Because I think it’s bunk, and I really don’t understand why it gets so much play, especially among UT fans.
My thoughts:
1. We won’t be installing a new offensive system, although I don’t think that’s the usually cited reasons. However. . .
2. The state of the program, imo, is no worse than Alabama was when Saban took over. His program succeeded in year 2.
3. By 2011, we can reasonably expect to have three top 10 recruiting classes on campus.
4. The players we lose after this year are at positions of great depth: WR, LB, DE. (we’ll see, of course, how the QB situation works out)
I know I’ve mentioned this once or twice before, but I haven’t seen it addressed in a systematic way, and I’d like to see that done at some point. I don’t know if this is the appropriate place, but recruiting classes are all about stockpiling talent for the next few years, so it seems as good a place as any. What is Dooley’s task, and what can we reasonably expect or hope for?
Standard disclaimer: This doesn’t mean I expect a championship in 2011, just that I expect a team that can legitimately compete in the East and won’t enter the season merely hoping for 6-8 wins.

Also
Google not helping me much on “multiple 40” defense.

Multiple 40 defense
is just different defenses with different configurations of LB’s and DB’s w/ 4 down linemen(4-3, 4-2-5, 4-4-3, 4-6 bear, ect), Although I’m sure he will have an occasional 3-4 and 3-3-5 defense as well.
That sounds like our best forecast, honestly.
We have the flexibility in the back 7 now; it’s the line that we need to manage well.
True, although the 3-4 is the best defense
we really do not have a big nose tackle, so I think it is best we stick with the 40 defenses for the time being.
Either my computer or TalkShoe is having issues
The widget pops up, but there’s no place to actually type anything, so I’m watching silently.

my browser isn't even showing the talkshoe widget
but the work computer is always screwy… I’ll just listen to it when I get off at midnight.
I did find a replay of the presser
I didn’t see it earlier and will watch it after the podcast. In case you’re interested: http://www.wbir.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=64731177001#/Local+News/Your+Stories/44024439001/39627146001/64757766001

Thanks
I’ll add that to my to do list for tonight :)
That last question was a softball
Best player: Da’Rick Rogers (although Bray is not a bad answer)
Most immediate need: Michael Palardy (runner up: JuWan James)

Well, Bray has the potential to be the best
But Rogers is the safest bet for best player in the class. Obviously, QBs have naturally higher upside. I hope Bray lives up to his.

I kinda think that's right.
As in, The Rick. —> Da Rick.
