2010 Tennessee Football Coaching Staff

Now that the Vols have rounded out their new coaching staff with the hiring of Chuck Smith, we thought we'd take a look at these guys collectively.  Some of the assistant hires got a little lost in the shuffle of recruiting, but on the whole, this is a staff with a solid balance of NFL and SEC experience.

Much was made of the Kiffin Chimera, and while this staff will certainly be less talked about, our hope is that they can be just as efficient in both recruiting and coaching, and ultimately even more so...and that they'll all stick around long enough to realize the fruit of their labor.

While official announcements on specific position assignments haven't been made in all cases, Brent Hubbs at VolQuest gave what he felt to be the assignments on Friday night ($), and we'll be working with that information.  For more details on each coach, check out the official individual releases from UTSports.com, from which the majority of this information comes.

Solid staff

I’m probably the least sold on Hinshaw… it will be interesting to see what he can do with our 2 freshman QBs

Exactly my thoughts

RIP Steve McNair (1973 - 2009) Retire #9!

Me too.

I’m hoping that Dooley saw something in Hinshaw that we didn’t because we don’t tend to pay much attention to the Tigers while Dooley had to recruit against them. (As such, he’d have to know what Memphis offered players so he could effectively counter their offers.)

FWIW

Hinshaw broke every major passing record at Central Florida during his playing time there…of course, Daunte Culpepper came along two years later and rewrote the book, but still, Hinshaw at least understands how to have success at the position.

I am excited about Chaney and Wilcox

Chaney is a known commodity at this point. And I am optimistic that Wilcox will be very good.

...just apologize for not thanking me.

What about Chaney can't be loved?

Wyoming during their best offensive run. (Stop laughing; they were incredible then. I was there.) Purdue, with SUPER BOWL WINNING QB DREW BREES tearing it up (who then had great success at San Diego before WINNING THE SUPER BOWL WITH THE SAINTS).

Turned Crompton around into a potential 2nd-rounder this year.

We'll be talking with Boise State folk about Wilcox tonight on the podcast

I love the way their defense forces turnovers, I’m just curious as to how much of that had to do with the competition they were playing (especially the quarterbacks they were facing)
