Quinn Cannington is almost just like Tim Tebow
Talking Points for 3/10/10:
- Huh. Who knew? Bruceball senior Quinn Cannington was born in the Philippines to missionaries, prompting a friend of his to say, "You and Tebow are the exact same person, except he's good." I wonder if Cannington's heard of Club Trillion, a group of bench players whose main realistic game-time goal is to get one minute of mop up time and do nothing with it so that their box score is a "1" followed by a bunch of zeroes.
- Congrats again to Wayne Chism for making first-team All-SEC. He joins Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins, John Wall, and Patrick Patterson (yes, that's three Wildcats on the first team), South Carolina's Devin Downey, Georgia's Trey Thompkins, and Mississippi State's Jarvis Varnado. That team would be really tough to beat, and not just because it would have seven starters.
- The Vols are glad to get their depth back and hoping it pays dividends in the post season, especially with the team having to prepare for two teams at once ($?). Of course, a bye in the SEC Tournament would have been nice and all ($?), seeing as we beat both teams in the West that are getting them, but whatever.

7 starters on the first team?
Can we blame Alabama’s counting issues on this, too?
Simulated Gameday Experience - just like the real thing, only we have smoke machines.
No.
The real reason is that Calipari needs to combine all 3 Kentucky players to post a qualifying SAT score. Should’ve just called in Mr. Rose’s guy.

That's good
combine all 3 Kentucky players to post a qualifying SAT score
3 of the 7 starters from Kentucky
Yes, they are that good, but it does make us wonder whether John Calipari used Worldwide Wes or some other financial conduit to influence the selection committee to have a larger first team for the headline value for Kentucky’s players.
Oh, wait, I’m sorry… Calipari doesn’t care about headlines, publicity, self-aggrandizement, etc….
It means nothing......

I kinda get the feeling that Patterson made it on name recognition
Cousins and Wall absolutely deserved it, but Patterson has kinda taken a backseat to those two, and I don’t know that he’s really had a 1st team all-SEC season. Maybe if you have eight (yes, eight, GVX forgot to count Jermaine Beal) players on the first team, it might work.

well
he did take a backseat, so he didn’t have as many shot attempts as he did last year, but he was also moved to the PF spot, to make room for Cousins at center. That is why his true shooting percentage went down – he is taking more shots away from the basket, including having the green light from 3. But, he’s shooting 41.5% from deep which is better than anyone on our team. Not only was he great on the offensive side of the ball, he played great defense. Considering his company and his new role, I think he played really well this season.
BTW, I think it’s insane that Wall gets the nod over Cousins for SEC Player of the year.

Agreed.
They had a story on espn.com or si.com or whatever.com. It was asking who deserved the NCAA POY between Evan Turner and John Wall. Guys at work (including myself) were saying that Wall isn’t even the best player on his team. Sporting News agrees. They’ve already named Turner Player of the Year
Patterson from 3
He only had something like 3 attempts from 3 coming into this year….all because Gillispie only wanted him on the low block.
