Go Vols!!!

Is anyone else taking off work to watch this game?

I'm "working from home"

The VPN can be both a blessing and a curse…today it’s a blessing :)

by VolnVA on Mar 11, 2010 1:39 PM EST up reply actions

I work from 5:00-6:30 today

So I’ll watch the first half, and then bring my computer with me and stream ESPN360 if it’s still close. I don’t technically have to do anything except listen to a lecture, so it might work.

by Incipient_Senescence on Mar 11, 2010 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

Quite the schedule you have there

Ill hopefully be out by 4, highly unlikley though.

by Getoffmyvols on Mar 11, 2010 1:56 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I'm in school full-time

And I don’t have any classes today. My only paying job is a TA position. I work 3 hours a week (every once in a while, I have to grade papers or meet with students and spend another hour or two), and get 3,200 a semester. Not much, but it’s better than nothing.

by Incipient_Senescence on Mar 11, 2010 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

Yea that’s not a bad gig at all.

by Getoffmyvols on Mar 11, 2010 2:07 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

It helps that I have a lazy professor

Who hates giving out work because he has to come up with work to give out. Thus, I don’t have a whole lot to grade.

I believe this will also be broadcast on espn360

(and I also believe I will be taking quick peeks of the score throughout the afternoon)

yeah, I would watch it on 360 from my office

but I wouldn’t get anything done, and my IT people would probably shut my computer down for using so much bandwidth

Georgetown up 5 on Syracuse with 2:03 to play

…and we’re off to a good start on other teams competing for a 3 seed losing.

by Will Shelton on Mar 11, 2010 1:58 PM EST reply actions

Crap

Gotta get the feeling Georgetown is going to close this one out. We need to make the finals just to keep pace.

by Incipient_Senescence on Mar 11, 2010 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

Hoyas win 91-84

apparently Arinze Onuaku from Syracuse went down with a knee injury, which is the bigger story. Again: number one rule for the Vols this weekend is don’t get anybody hurt.

by Will Shelton on Mar 11, 2010 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

South Carolina up 38-27 on Alabama at the half

also Memphis down 36-27 at the half to Houston, a loss that would kill their tourney hopes

Downey is doing his thing

’Bama just hit a 3 to cut it to 54-39, but this is nothing but a trip to the woodshed.

Someone take note. i think in like 3 years, this the first time I’ve commented ona Basketball Game Thread heh

This has turned into a really good finish

a huge Bama run finishes with the Tide up 62-59, but Carolina hits a three, then Bama scores again. 64-62 Bama, 55.3 left, Carolina ball after a timeout. Whew.

by Will Shelton on Mar 11, 2010 3:03 PM EST reply actions

Downey with the steal then gets fouled!

Going to the line to tie it with 18 seconds left.

by VolnVA on Mar 11, 2010 3:04 PM EST up reply actions

In the double bonus, so he’ll have 1 more.

by VolnVA on Mar 11, 2010 3:05 PM EST up reply actions

Downey misses

but then gets a steal nn the other end and is fouled with 18.3 left, shooting 1 and 1

Memphis is done

66-65 Houston wins…Kemp gets (rightfully) called for a carry about a second before he hit a three with less than a second to play

LSU has some of the goofiest song and dance traditions

There’s one that their fans do that looks like the thing the old tag team wrestlers The Bushwackers did when they walked to the ring. They’re super irritating, too. Luckily, they only have 2 basketball fans, so we won’t see much of them today.

by SecondaryViolationU on Mar 11, 2010 3:25 PM EST reply actions

They get more mileage out of saying their own name

than any other school. I think the only cheer they know is “L-S-U! L-S-U!”

Regardless of the outcome

I’d bet a lot of money that Bruce is going to be Fulmerizing up a storm in the postgame. This has just been totally uninspired.

Lead up to 6

Another LSU turnover…let’s push this out to 8 or 9 right now!

if we do end up winning

i’m not sure kennedy will have much to scout

ah ha....

You’ve uncovered Bruce’s strategy!

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." Another LSU turnover

The defense has been stout, but we are still struggling so much on offense that we can’t put these jokers away.

Long as we lead at the end of the day

Thats all that maters today anyway

we did this in our first meeting with them

shooting (and missing) a lot of 3s. it kept them in the game.

I remember...

That was the most painful game of the year for me…up to now. Let’s just hope it’s a weird sort of match-up thing, shake it off, and come out blazing tomorrow.

Just a typical 5-second stretch for Pajamas

Create a turnover for each team…then he turns it over again.

McBee misses the only shot in his arsenal.

I'm just so full of Fulmers waiting to come out

LSU gets 2 offensive rebounds and scores on their 3rd try. AHHH!!!!

by VolnVA on Mar 11, 2010 5:08 PM EST reply actions

12.5%

pretty bad

Maze shooting 20%, Chism 50%… everyone else 0.

by CabanX on Mar 11, 2010 5:10 PM EST up reply actions

Since its a timeout...

Chsim 1-2 … 14 TP
Maze 1-5 … 3 TP
Prince 0-1 … 9 TP
Hopson 0-2 … 0 TP
Tatum 0-4 … 2 TP
McBee 0-2 … 0 TP

Williams is 3-6 from the floor… 7 TP, 10 REB. Within range of a double double.
Goins is the only other player with points… he has 3.

We are leading. Hold on to the lead. Keep playing D. Take your shots where we can get them. Don’t do nothing crazy.

he doesn’t even know whats going on defense

by golfballs03 on Mar 11, 2010 5:22 PM EST reply actions

disagree...

everyone has played solid defense for the most part

He’s just going too hard off the glass on offense.

it hasn't been his best game

there have been several times where he has gotten lost and messed up his switches.

there havent been a lot of defensive lapses, but they all have been pretty bad.

In general, I agree with the strategy…but Maze is one of only two guys you shouldn’t do that to.

Does anybody want to play in the big boy tournament?

Memphis lost a heartbreaker to Houston, UAB is about to lose to Southern Miss, and Wake Forest got hammered by Miami. Florida, I’m looking at you to represent the SEC and act like you want to play some more basketball.

time to take advantage of it… same goes for the Mississippi teams.
