I won't be able to watch today

The boss’ boss thought that 3:30-5 was a great time to have a meeting on Friday. After that, I’ll be driving down to NC to meet my family (Salisbury is roughly equidistant from Richmond, Knoxville, and Atlanta).

I’m concerned about today’s game. We may have been “conserving energy” yesterday, but we almost lost to LSU. That doesn’t give me great confidence heading into a game against a team that has given us fits for the last couple of years. We have to play with more energy and shoot better today or we go home. I’d LOVE to have a reason to spend tomorrow afternoon glued to the TV.

In the spirit of full disclosure…the last time I drove to NC during a UT game, we got hammered by Southern Cal. Everyone can blame me if things don’t go well today.

Don't think we won't! ;-)

Also on Ambien: Kentucky

17-8 Alabama eight minutes in…the Tide are stroking it from three, and looks like Kentucky brought their C- game.

by Will on Mar 12, 2010 1:24 PM EST reply actions

now 26-15 Bama at 6:58 first half

Tide are 4 of 6 from three, six offensive rebounds…we’ll see how long this lasts

by Will on Mar 12, 2010 1:39 PM EST up reply actions

Also of note:

Kentucky is 0-5 from 3, has shot 4 free-throws to Alabama’s 8 (Bama has made all 8) — but there we go, a quick 6-0 run by Kentucky stopped by a Bama bucket. 28-21 Bama 5:42 left in the half.

Kentucky

Currently on a 10-2 run to cut it to 28-25. Bama turning the ball over and fouling. A basket by Bama makes it 30-25 at 3:57 left in the half.

Through nearly 18 minutes of gametime

This is Demarcus Cousin’s statline: FG: 0-2 FT: 0-0 Reb: 3 Assist: 1 TO: 1 Block: 1 TO: 1 PF: 2. Wow.

And it’s a 33-27 game under 2 left in the first.

And the boards

Are telling the story of this game, it seems. Alabama has 23 rebounds, 9 offensive, to Kentucky’s 15 and 3. Well, that and the 3-point game, where Kentucky is an impressive 0 for 8 compared to Bama’s 4-6.

Big turn around there..

Alabama had a chance to go up by double-digits but missed the front end of a 1 and 1, then UK goes down and hits their first 3 of the game right before the buzzer to make it a 35-30 Alabama lead at halftime in the early game.

Has Michigan never heard of ball pressure?

No pressure on the inbounder, no pressure in the back court…even though there were only 2.2 seconds when the play started, Turner got within 35 feet without being bothered. Very questionable strategy…

I have class from 3:00 to 4:30

So I’ll miss the first half of our game and all of the Kentucky/Bama game. Honestly, I don’t know whether we should pull for Bama and the easier path or for Kentucky and another shot at a marquee win. At any rate, GO VOLS, and I’ll see y’all around 5ish. We should be able to take Ole Miss with our newfound inside game, but they have given us trouble in the past. Let’s see if we can pull a UT/MSU in the second time in a week we play a desperate bubble team.

by Incipient_Senescence on Mar 12, 2010 2:26 PM EST reply actions

Kentucky

Sure has come alive in the second half: they have outscored the Tide 25-16 in the second half. It was 25-10, but a quick 6-0 run by Bama has cut the Kentucky lead down to 55-51 with 8:37 left — oop, a bucket by Bledsoe makes it 57-51at the under 8 timeout. Alabama has a 16-5 offensive rebounding lead over Kentucky. Ho-ly crap. Both teams are shooting the FTs very well, too, but foul trouble seems to be more in Bama’s corner with 3 guys with 3 fouls and 1 with 4. For Kentucky, Patterson and Orton both have 3 fouls.

Speaking of good FTs

Alabama just missed two. Big misses, and Chris Hynes for Bama just fouled out. Depth for an already undoubtedly tired team can really be a big issue down the stretch.

Intentional Foul

And the right call. Nice pass by Maze.

Both players shake immediately afterwards, nothing bad.

I am SO ready....

I am so sick of hearing we only beat them because we were playing at home. Yeah, well, they only won in Lexington because they were at home. Yay for a rubber game on a neutral court!

They’ll have more people there than us probably…

But we’ll have Rocky Top blaring!

ironic

since rupp, from the refs to the crowd, is easily the biggest home court advantage in the sec, if not the entire ncaa. an average rupp game is worth about 5 shaky calls in favor of UK.

I agree on the refs...

but their crowd is not that great; too many rich old folks filling the lower bowl. Even lots of UK fans complain about it. I’ve heard many say they are envious of other home courts, including TBA.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
