Kentucky sweeps All-SEC for player and coach in women's basketball " GoVolsXtra
My only question: how was Cain not a unanimous 1st-team selection? Surely it wasn't because she didn't go to Alabama...

Heh.
In fairness, though, the Kentucky coach is deserving. They were expected to finish 11th based on youth and weaknesses in the interior.
I can see both points here.
On some level, it’s akin to not voting for Bonds as MVP a few years back or Pujols recently (minus the PED debate); yes, you can do it and it’s not necessarily a bad idea, but there’s also clearly someone better than the person you’re voting MVP too. Still, Kentucky had one heck of a season and I can’t fault the voting.

On why Cain wasn't unanimous:
This was the first time that anyone in the SEC has been able to successfully block Cain from anything, so they had to take it.

The coaches should have thought that through, though:
If they had piled awards on her like crazy, she might have decided to go to the WNBA after next year. Right now, she plans on coming back for her fifth season.
They could have been rid of her a year earlier. (Or maybe it was Summitt who made it non-unanimous in a bid to keep her around a bit!)
Wonder if Summitt didn't vote for her, then.
Wouldn’t put it past her.

That would be funny.
I’m guessing that you’re not allowed to vote for your own players and that ‘unanimous’ really means ‘all the other coaches’.

But yeah. A real quick litmus test:
Exhibit A: the first game of the season against Baylor. Name anybody else in the SEC who could have shackled Griner the way that Cain did.
I'm wondering if Cain will be able to do that again, though.
It was a great performance, but I don’t know if it’s a repeatable one.

Doesn't have to be repeatable. :-)
She had one shot and she took it.

Postscript:
Apparently Griner might’ve taken herself out of the season.
