Two OSU Perspectives on Tennessee

+

The main link is from OSU blog The Silver Bullet who has a good look at what Tennessee actually does well instead of "OMG PRESz!!11" What I liked from the story: Let me start by saying that Bruce Pearl is one of the most annoying coaches in college basketball. Any coach that 1) shows up shirtless with a painted body to a women's basketball game, 2) is caught hitting on college girls, and 3) wears a bright orange jacket on the sideline won't get my vote. Despite his obnoxious personality and love of coeds, the guy can flat coach. If there was ever proof of that, it has been this season. After the marijuana debacle (that led to the departure of T. Smith), most every coach in the country would have lost this squad. Instead the Volunteers, under Pearl, have played inspired basketball. Then there's blog Eleven Warriors which has two pieces concerning this weekend. In one they rank the 16 teams left, placing Tennessee at #7 overall, and in another more Tennessee-directed one they have a great picture and a somewhat critical and dismissive perspective, but he is a Buckeye fan so we can only rationally expect a small level of intelligence. To the Vols’ credit, despite an influx of walk ons beginning to pick up some of the end of the rotation minutes, UT bounced right back and beat then #1 KU at home the very next weekend (though Northern Iowa’s neutral court heroics have somewhat diminished the returns on that puppy). The Vols put together a great rest of the year, really only stumbling against top tier tournament worthy SEC teams, one outlier loss on the road to Mark Fox’ Georgia Bulldogs aside. UT also holds one of just two victories over the prohibitive favorite amongst the remaining teams to go all the way, John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats (no word on whether Tennessee will garner an extra win in 2014 or not; stay tuned). Both of these links were found by following the "Other Buckeye Blogs" section on SBNation's Ohio State blog The Buckeye Battle Cry.
