Tobias Harris & Josh Selby in the McDonald's All-American Game Tonight
Hey, more basketball!
The 24 best high school basketball players in the nation are in action tonight in the McDonald's All-American Game, live from Columbus, OH on ESPN (and 360) at 8:00 PM EDT.
For the Vols, Tennessee signee Tobias Harris - currently rated as the fifth best player in the nation by Rivals - will be featured on the East team. So will Josh Selby, who's one spot ahead of Harris in those rankings and who continues to leave several schools, including the Vols, in suspense before announcing his college choice later this month.
If you're watching tonight, we'll use this post as a live thread...and you'll also want to keep an eye on the following players:
- G Joe Jackson, from White Station High School, who will play for hometown Memphis
- G/F Jelan Kendrick, another future Tiger High player
- F Jayaughn Pinkston, who considered the Vols before signing with Villanova
- F/C Patric Young from Jacksonville, who will play for Florida (on the West team tonight)
Several of tonight's players are undecided...but with word swirling around practice that five Kentucky players are headed for the NBA Draft, leave no doubt that Kentucky will be involved with several of these guys as well.
You don't ever want to make too much of these high school all-star games...but hopefully Tobias will show us something good tonight. You can also check out the men's and women's Three Point and Slam Dunk Contests (which were actually held Monday - future Lady Vol Meighan Simmons is also featured) at 7:00 PM. We won't spoil the outcome if you haven't heard already, but check out Tobias and Selby practicing:

I don't think I can justify not finishing my paper tonight
So keep a good live game thread for reading afterwards. And hopefully have some good news to report regarding Harris (and Selby?).

Harris wasn't even in it.
Which makes the above video a little more surprising.

Harris is having a great start.
Also, is Selby on his team or in red?

It's really strange for me to have a reason to cheer for the East in something like this.
I grew up a West guy for nearly everything.
ESPN's not including UT in Selby's top four
but who really knows anything with this kid…he’s announcing on April 17
Despite the fact that they have analysts predicting Selby to UT.

The only problem with these kinds of games is that the kids are too focused on showcasing.
A few great passing opportunities are being missed.
Can't really blame them, though

No.
I’m not criticizing them for it, especially since they haven’t played with each other as a team for enough time. Just an observation.

They've subbed in two sets of five
Tobias was with the first group, Selby the second….wonder if they’ll play with each other eventually

Bledsoe and Orton should stay, in terms of player development
they could be the Wall and Cousins of 2011. But if they’re projected in the first round, and especially with the NBA lockout looming, can’t blame them (and won’t miss them) if they go

but 9 would mean Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, Orton, Patterson, plus 3 seniors and someone else supposedly transferring — maybe Jon Hood.
