College Basketball - March 6
The most important Saturday of the college basketball season thus far, there are a ton of different things to watch for today. We'll have game threads for both the women and the men today, playing back-to-back this afternoon:
SEC Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals - Duluth, GA
- #1 Tennessee vs. #5 Vanderbilt - 3:30 PM - ESPNU
- #2 Kentucky vs. #3 Mississippi State - 6:00 PM - ESPNU
SEC Men's Basketball
The #2 west seed, a first-round bye, and a date with Tennessee on Friday will all go to the winner of Ole Miss & Arkansas. Vanderbilt plays to improve their seeding, Auburn and Alabama could be an NIT play-in game, and of course, Tennessee and Mississippi State will collide in a huge game tonight. Florida and Kentucky play Sunday at noon. Today's schedule:
- Auburn at Alabama - 1:30 PM - SEC Network
- South Carolina at #19 Vanderbilt - 2:00 PM - ESPN2
- Ole Miss at Arkansas - 4:00 PM - SEC Network
- Georgia at LSU - 5:00 PM - Fox Sports South
- #13 Tennessee at Mississippi State - 6:00 PM - ESPN
National games of interest/Bubble Watch:
- #8 West Virginia at #9 Villanova - 12:00 PM - CBS
- Tulsa at Memphis - 1:00 PM - CBS College Sports Network
- #1 Syracuse at Louisville - 2:00 PM - ESPN
- #2 Kansas at Missouri - 2:00 PM - CBS
- UConn at South Florida - 2:00 PM
- Notre Dame at Marquette - 2:00 PM
- #25 Texas at #22 Baylor - 4:00 PM
- Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech - 4:00 PM - Raycom (in ACC country)
- North Carolina at #4 Duke - 9:00 PM - ESPN
- UAB at UTEP - 9:00 PM
As it relates to Tennessee's seeding, I'm not sure the Vols are going to catch either Nova or WVA, so that one's probably just for fun. But Texas over Baylor (who has an RPI of 10) would help.
Conference Tournament Championship Games
- Big South: Coastal Carolina vs. Winthrop - 4:00 PM - ESPN2
- Atlantic Sun: ETSU vs. Mercer - 6:00 PM - ESPN2
- Ohio Valley: Murray State vs. Morehead State - 8:00 PM - ESPN2

Hey guys for those of you
who have been to an SEC basketball tournament, what is the best way to get tickets? I am trying to get tickets for Friday’s game against Arkansas/Ole Miss. The biggest problem is Kentucky will be playing right before us on Friday, which is really jacking up ticket prices for Friday’s first session on internet sites. Last night the cheapest tickets you could get on stub hub for session 1 on Friday was around $220, compared to $75 for the Friday night games. I know this tournament is different than the Georgia Dome tourneys since the capacity at the Sommet Center is only about 17,000, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips. I Appreciate it.
It's simple Cubs in the spring and summer, Vols in the fall and winter.
Anything downstairs is going to be pricey with Kentucky in the same side of the bracket
You should be able to get in upstairs for something under $100 though. In 2006 there were a lot of scalpers close to the building, but not many other places.
If you’re thinking about staying for the weekend, the best thing to do is find fans of the teams that lose on Friday immediately following their game and straight up ask them what they want for their tickets.

Will, do you think if I
go down to the arena Thursday night, could I pick up some tickets from a losing team after their game, or do you think since it is on Thursday their will not be many “team fans” their to sell tickets for the rest of the weekend. Also if I was to go downtown at say 1:30 Nashville time on Friday for our 2:15 game, could I still find tickets for our game, or would I have to scalp them before the UK game. And one last question, when you came in 2006, was the arena sold out for every game?

I didn't stick around to find out
In 2006, we went down Friday morning for our noon game, and when we lost, we immediately unloaded our tickets and left. The venue was sold out in the sense that you couldn’t buy tickets at the box office, but there were empty seats in the uppers on Friday.
It’s not a bad idea to try Thursday – I’m not sure how many fans from LSU or the Auburn/Alabama/Carolina/Georgia group that will play the early Thursday session will be there, but there will be some, and you can try to get their seats. On Friday, if there are still tickets to the early session to be had, they’ll be cheaper after the Kentucky game starts, but I’m not sure about the number because I’ve never tried doing it that way.
There will also be significant numbers of Tennessee and Vanderbilt fans in Nashville, though you don’t have to worry about the Dores until Saturday as far as tickets go. But if Kentucky goes out at any point, you won’t have any problem finding a ticket.
Yeah you are right about Vandy
they will not be a ticket factor until maybe Sunday, their fans just do not travel the 3 miles from Memorial Gym to the Sommet Center. Just out of curiosity what percentage of fans do you think will be in orange and what percentage will be in blue on Friday, and Hopefully Saturday. I think it will probably be about 65-70% Kentucky, but hopefully I am wrong.

I'd say it will be closer to 75-80%
I’ve never been to one where Kentucky is as good as they are now, and even before they’d come in droves. There may be some UK fans who are saving their money and vacation days for the Final Four (or so they hope), but overall they will dominate.
Assuming our boys win Thursday...
(knocking on wood).
Cannons... fire them.

Yeah, well I'm pulling for Nova just in case
Several of the teams currently projected higher than us have easy games today…
Temple plays at home vs. GW
Vanderbilt plays at home vs. USC
Pitt plays at home vs. Rutgers
I’m hoping Penn State can pull of the upset at home vs. Purdue, but not counting on it.
and tomorrow Michigan State and Wisconsin play. I think MSU will get it down at home vs. Michigan, but Wisconsin might have a tough time on the road vs. Illinois. That game is similar to the one we have tonight – playing a team on the road – senior night – and their tournament hopes might rest on this game.
