You know, we have some interesting questions along the lines of Bucky's
I typed out a response along those lines, but it got way too long. Thus, it is now a FanPost.

I think it will be very difficult to get a 3 seed without winning the SEC tournament
We would need to be reliant on a few teams above us to lose early. Teams like Wisconsin, Michigan State, Pitt, and Villanova. Unfortnately I only think Villanova has a legitimate shot of losing early in their tournament. But even if they did, I’m not sure it would drop them below us, as there are so many good tournament teams in the Big East. As for Michigan State and Wisconsin… I think they have very favorable match-ups and I actually think both have pretty good odds of making the Big 10 Championship game. Wisconsin is likely to matchup with Ohio State in the semis and it will be interesting to see if a team as thin as Ohio State can turnaround the next day and play with Wisconsin – granted they do play a slow paced-game – they are a team that is playing pretty well right now with the return of Leuer. I expect Michigan State to beat a Hummel-less Purdue team. However, I have head some say the selection committee overlooks conference final games if they feel they have a good grasp of the field and the outcome is unlikely to change their opinion. Hopefully this is the case if we beat Kentucky – and that they view it very favorably.
The last two sentences is my secondary hope
The primary hope is that we just win the dang thing. The secondary hope is more likely.

a 3 seed is HUGE
particularly because we are trying to get over the Sweet 16 hump. And the difference between a 4 and a 5 is marginal in comparison. And as twisted as this sounds, a loss to LSU wouldn’t be as disasterous as it seems because if we are a 6 seed, we stay on the opposite side of the bracket as the 1. Granted we would likely have to play a 2 and a 3 seed. Kind of like, pick your poison.
Yeah
A 6 decreases our chances of making the Sweet Sixteen but increases our chances of making the Elite Eight. A 3, however, increases drastically our chances of both. Let’s go win the SEC Tournament, boys!

I also think that BYU will win the Mountain West.
New Mexico barely beat them at the end of the season, and BYU was without their best player Jimmer Fredette. So if the two squared off in the title game, and BYU won, would they both finish as higher seeds than Tennessee if we failed to win the SEC?
