The Florida guy has a mighty strange accent. Sounds like Wilmington/Philly/South Jersey, although I could be wrong, I’m not the best at these things.

And I think both my parents and at least one of my sisters (the one at Asbury) will agree with me when I say that LOST is just an inferior version of Battlestar Galactica with a less scifi name.

Battlestar Galactica

is LOST without a sense of humor.

Big fan of both…BSG was the most serious show I’ve ever seen. But while the jury remains out on the final season, I hope to be able to continue my argument for LOST as the best show ever once everything plays out. I am passionately in love with that show.

You are right about the seriousness

But the biggest difference, imo, apart from marketing, is that BSG was always driving towards a conclusion, whereas I get the feeling that LOST lost focus and meandered for a season or two.

The show I consider the best ever (with BSG running second) is Firefly, which would have a much better argument if it hadn’t gotten canceled after 14 episodes. Still, short-lived as it was, I haven’t seen anything that could touch it.

I've seen Serenity

need to go back and watch the series. I’d put that All Along The Watchtower episode of BSG up there against any hour of television on any show though, along with the Season 3 finale of LOST.

(For others: if you listen to the podcast live, you can hear us talk about exciting things like Christian music, our favorite TV shows, and what time Joel goes to bed during bonus coverage when the recording stops)

Serenity gets significantly better after you've seen the series

But if you just considered it as its own episode and then ranked them 1-15, it’d probably only come in around 10. “Objects in Space” is one of the best TV episodes I’ve seen, and “Shindig” probably has a higher concentration of one-liners than just about anything out there.

And yeah, the Season 3 finale of BSG is really, really tough to beat. Although the most impressive writing I’ve seen in an hour of TV still goes to “Hush” (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season four). Other things may be more exciting, funnier, a greater contribution to an overall storyline, better episodes in general (actually, that’s not even the best episode of Buffy. That honor goes to the season 3 finale), but nothing else has left me with that degree of respect for the writers. Which is a little ironic, because that’s not a show you approach expecting great writing (unless you’ve seen Firefly and Dollhouse, in which case the rules change).
