I am sacrificing attendance today for the public good: working diligently on this year's edition of the Maple Street Press Tennessee annual. It will be the first spring game I've missed in something like ten years, so pick up the slack for me and yell "BRITCHES" a time or two. I do plan to catch it on the stream, though, so there's that.

No tackling on QBs or kicking units
10 minute quarters.
Offenses are required to go hurry-up in last two minutes of each half. I LIKE this stipulation!

Simms forced to throw it away on 3rd and 4
The D-line is owning the O-line. But the white team has both lines, thanks to Walker.

That deep receiver had finally gotten free
A bit late for Simms, though.

Pooch punt doesn't work that well
27 yards to the 16. And it’s Harrington, not Harris.

End of one
Both D-lines are beating the O-lines, although the white D-line is doing better (which makes sense, as the white team has both starting lines).
Both QBs are starting well, and so are Oku and Poole.

Cunningham punts to the 12
He outkicked his coverage (which isn’t good, as it was only a 48 yard kick), we might’ve seen a big return if punts were live.

Every media members who says Bray’s legs are too small, really doesn’t remember Peyton as a freshman. Almost identical lower body.

Funny thing about this spring games...
If this continues, Bray is going to be the most popular QB we have… and the fans are going to be upset if Simms gets the start and makes any mistakes. Even if Simms is the better QB 9 times out of 10.
I’m wondering if limiting practices to the media might not bite them.

The white obviously has a much better roster
Chris Walker is a smart guy. White is dominating on the lines. This makes Poole look even more impressive than he already is. I was impressed with Oku running behind a poor line though. Williams not so much.
The orange has one defensive player keeping them in the game though: Gerald Williams. Without him, they’d be toast.

future
I honestly think we’ll be ok this year. We had a bit of a makeshift o-line last season and did pretty good. At this point the players here now are the ones that want to be here. I think alot of playing above talent level will be happening this season.
"GIVE HIM SIX" - John Ward
I think...
we may have to scheme for the fact that our offensive line isn’t going to be allowing us a ton of time. It can be worked around, even thought it limits us. I expect us to run a lot of misdirection, slants, screens, etc. If we’re trying to run play action and off tackle runs I’ll begin to question the coaching decisions.
Playaction might could work if Poole impresses enough

Swing pass works this time
Moore runs well, makes 17

Another swing pass, dropped by Moore

That was a dangerous throw too

Nice drop, there.
Wolfe, I think they said, was coming in on ’em.

Nice defense there by Moore.
Nice arm strength, at the least.

Bray throws deep
Dangerous throw, Moore knocks it away from Prentiss Wagner
by Incipient_Senescence on Apr 17, 2010 3:55 PM EDT reply actions
Bray either threw that away or someone ran the wrong route
by Incipient_Senescence on Apr 17, 2010 3:56 PM EDT reply actions
Short pass to Tauren Poole
Who breaks lots of tackles for lots of yards.
by Incipient_Senescence on Apr 17, 2010 3:57 PM EDT reply actions
Poole wouldn't gain that much
In a real game. Defensive players didn’t want to pop him really hard.
Makes Teh Monies Throwing Down In The Blogosphere.
Poole has a bunch of broken tackles
looking like Mo’ out there
Bray to MIlton
Milton needs to come to that, he made it closer than it should’ve been. 2nd and 4

Draw
No space for Poole. One yard.
by Incipient_Senescence on Apr 17, 2010 3:59 PM EDT reply actions
Nice hands by Wagner.
Picked it off, but was OOB.
Does that count as a Dooley-Version of OOBTO!!! ?

I love how surprised the announcers are when we make a FG
13-7, 3:25 to play.
Chip Rhome 2/2, long of 41

They call it a sack, Walls.

Touchdown Anthony Anderson!
Poor pass, Matt.
by Incipient_Senescence on Apr 17, 2010 4:03 PM EDT reply actions
I think that was a taunting penalty
he dropped the ball out of carrying position before he entered the end zone. Bring it back.

No TD anymore
They’re calling him out at the 22
by Incipient_Senescence on Apr 17, 2010 4:04 PM EDT reply actions
That was the right pass by Bray
But was a bit high.

Was Brian Williams in there? ;-)

It was a last minute replacement, and they're in-state
So not as bad as it could be. We’re helping out the UT system.

Last lower division team we played...
Was The Citadel in 1983.
Won 45-6 during a 9-3 season.
Good coverage by Fleming, incomplete in the end zone
by Incipient_Senescence on Apr 17, 2010 4:07 PM EDT reply actions
Excellent coverage.
It was man-coverage, so the throw was an okay one — he also put it over the defender, so it was going to be caught by White or not at all.
Makes Teh Monies Throwing Down In The Blogosphere.
I don't know
They haven’t tried a FG.

Bray
14/37 doesn’t look that great, but I like the 1 TD and 0 Ints in the stat line.
So Sayth King Zach I
Yeah
I think he played better than his stats indicated. He had a few drops. And his misses were mostly overthrows. He only had a couple bad decisions.

I would take 35+ attempts with no picks from any QB, especially a freshman

Since we’ll be using it so much next season ;-)

Standouts, by my eyes/memory:
Poole
Williams
Walls
The entire secondary* played well too. I didn’t see any coverage mistakes, and the WRs had trouble getting separation. Also, 4 picks.
*Except for Rod Wilks, who was pretty terrible.

They name Bray player of the game
I still would’ve selected one of the three above.

Final Grades
Bray- B+
Simms-C
I thought it was a well played game
Poole, 13 carries for 59
Oku 8 for 36. That’s 4.0+ YPC for both.

Defense may keep us in a few games next year but, I fear,
this is going to be a painful year to be a Vol.
