Huh
Well so much for the don’t-come-back-because-you-might-get-hurt argument then?

About Berry?
- to the Bucs was the earliest possible pick for him. The Rams and Lions made much wiser picks, given their needs, than Berry.
by David Hooper on Apr 22, 2010 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions
er...
Number one. etc.
You’d think I’d remember that.
by David Hooper on Apr 22, 2010 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions
McCoy will be a Buc
I sort of don’t want to see every recruit on the phone prior to the pick. Give me some suspense.
Still would be an improvement

lol
I think I said this like six years ago too, but the Lions have some nice young talent

Can't wait for the World Cup
Should make summer go faster, unless the Brewers plan on scoring 20 runs a game like they did today.

Appropriate time to cry
Tebow, take note.

Me, too
Although he could take his glasses off and dry off a bit. ;-)

Question:
if the Big 12 had two defensive picks in the top three, where were the Big 12 defenses?

Berry would love that.
Sean Taylor was his NFL hero.

No kidding
3 of the top four picks on one team? That’s crazy.
by Joel Hollingsworth on Apr 22, 2010 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions
And all 4 picks from Big 12

I can't imagine how the Texas fans are taking this right now.
But it has to be amusing.

I'm glad they're so happy.
Unlike when the Raiders selected DHB. That couldn’t have been fun for Terps fans.

He is rated #2
I’m surprised Kiper had Clausen ranked over Bradford.
If you didn't watch any college football
and you just looked at these guys’ physical tools, Crompton is a Top 3 QB.
Unfortunately, we all watched college football.

Growing up, my favorite teams in order were Broncos, Steelers, Chiefs.
Given that I’m not at all sold on the McDaniels hire yet, the Chiefs may move up. It might be the first time I’ve ever actively rooted for the Chiefs against the Broncos. We’ll see.
by David Hooper on Apr 22, 2010 8:24 PM EDT up reply actions
What did you think about Brandon Marshall?
by Will Shelton on Apr 22, 2010 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Great receiver. Total head case.
He needed somebody like Shanahan who knew how to handle him. He and McDaniels got into a power struggle where both lost. Neither handled it well.
by David Hooper on Apr 22, 2010 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions
But again, virtually unstoppable as a receiver.
They’re going to miss him far more than they realize.

By the way, here's the NFL draft theme song.

ESPN
Doesn’t like Washington, Oakland, or Cleveland’s picks so much.

yeah I'm cool with anything now that Oakland is out of the way
it’d be great if he held on for the Titans at 16, but that would mean they actually did something I agreed with on draft day

If Dan Williams
goes to the Broncos, how quickly will hooper jump back on here?
I'm back now.
We were at a restaurant and I had to drive home. I see the Broncos are trading quality for quantity.

Peyton Manning throwing footballs in a rural field.
Is he inheriting the obligatory Favre rustic-ball ads?
I hope so
I can’t stand watching Favre overthrow his friends in that Wrangler commercial.

Earl Thomas to Pete Carrol
… Taylor Mays is obviously the best Safety, right? Right..?
Makes Teh Monies Throwing Down In The Blogosphere.
I just realized,
this pretty well shuts down the Berry/Mays argument, at least at the college level, for all time.
NFLN pundits had an interesting thought:
They’re wondering if they picked a guy way above his projection because they think they can get a cheaper contract out of him. Interesting possibility, to be honest.
Jason Pierre-Paul to the Giants
Titans on the clock, Williams in the wing…?
Makes Teh Monies Throwing Down In The Blogosphere.
They picked Kenny Britt
last year. Bryant is out? I’d take Derrick Morgan.
This also in:
Idaho guard before Notre Dame quarterback.

And with the next pick..
Pittsburgh takes Crompton, a QB who isn’t afraid of hate mail.

I'm not sold on either of them
but McCoy especially
by Will Shelton on Apr 22, 2010 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Me too.
This was the effect of Marshall’s departure. Denver has to find a way to fill a bit of that huge gap left behind. Marshall made a huge difference in Denver’s offense. Total head case, but he saved their bacon multiple times.
by David Hooper on Apr 22, 2010 9:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Of course, leave it to the ESPN pundits to totally misinterpret it:
They’re surprised that Denver tried to find somebody similar to Marshall, skill-wise?
by David Hooper on Apr 22, 2010 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions
great situation for Dan Williams as long as he goes tonight
(which would be super awkward if he didn’t since he’s there), but they’re all good teams from here
Somebody seriously needs to take away the touch screens from these weathermen-type announcers.
And not just on ESPN. Also on weather news and especially on FoxNews and CNN. It distracts them too much.
Fox News
Has nothing better to report on than touch-screen displays.

And the fans rejoice
Tebow s***s! Tebow s***s!
Well, they get rid of the Marshall character issues
and pick up Tebow. That will be a major shift in terms of attitude.
And also to be fair, McDaniels saw NE get burned by Miami’s wildcat offense before heading to Denver.
will they have any sort of competition for Quinn?

They run a 3-4, apparently
So he should fit in perfectly at NT. ESPN Analysts love the pick, so stay cautious.
Makes Teh Monies Throwing Down In The Blogosphere.
Well, they were in the Super Bowl two years ago
They run a 3-4 defense that was good for most of last season but kinda fell apart in the playoffs. It’s a franchise on the rise (obviously) that has very little to compete with in the NFC West. The 9ers are coming back, but that’s all they have to worry about.

Scouts Inc. on Williams..
Emily Schaible:
Dan Williams, Tennessee, DT
Scouts Inc. Pros: At his best versus the run. Plays with good leverage and rarely gives ground. Wins most one-on-one battles and does a good job of disengaging and redirecting to fall back into plays. Shows ability to consistently anchor against double teams and flashes ability to split them on occasion. Protects feet well against cut blocks. Moves well in space for size and work down the line in pursuit to get involved in runs off-tackle. Strong overall tackler and flashes explosion upon contact.
Scouts Inc. Cons: Frequently comes out of stance high and lacks ability to counter once engaged with blockers. Closing burst is good but not great. Lacks elite quickness off the snap of the ball. Motor can run hot and cold as endurance appears to be an issue.

These analysts
are dying over Minnesota’s pick.
I think ESPN would do themselves a big favor
if they’d have one analyst who didn’t spend 147 hours a week staring at player metrics but instead simply kept track of what shape the teams were in. Their comments are being driven by their player studies, but they’re not lining them up with teams well.
Like suggesting that Minny should be happy to have Favre (assumedly) and Tarvaris as the only two QBs in town. And that drafting a QB would somehow be this huge offense to grampa that they have to avoid. Just weird.
Probably line him up on the opposite end
Also give Mathis a break as well. They lost someone from the D-Line in the offseason so that may play a role.
Also...as well
They mean the same thing. Who knew?
Early thought
I think I like having the first round on its own night. It’s long, but it’s not the sheer marathon they had in previous years. That is a good move.
Agreed
Not that I watched it, or ever do. But agreed.
by Incipient_Senescence on Apr 22, 2010 11:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Also agree
it was a lot to ask for people to sit down and watch 10 hours of the draft at once
by Will Shelton on Apr 22, 2010 11:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Much less the teams themselves.
Not that we really paid that much attention to later rounds, but this should make for smarter drafting all around.
