Dooley hints at synthetic turf being installed in Neyland Stadium
I can make many arguments for both sides of this one. My primary question is: how hot does that stuff get?
Personal take: we're a ways off before this becomes a real topic. But it's still the offseason.

Definitely not as hot as astroturf
But field turf definitely gets hotter than grass.
Unless the turf management staff is having issues grooming the grass, I think installing field turf would be a major mistake.

Meh...
While I’d prefer to have grass, I’d also prefer to play the state HS playoffs… and HS all star games inside Neyland Stadium. Pretty much free recruiting, and honestly the new field turf is a 1000% improvement over the carpet on rubber we had for a long time.
That will never happen
Easpecially with all of the classification/playoff changes TSSAA has made in order to minimize team travel. LP Field and Vanderbilt Stadium each have a better chance of hosting the Clinic Bowl than Neyland Stadium. Neyland could host a few all-star games, but as long as Memphis continues to field football teams affiliated with TSSAA [sarcasm], they will never allow Knoxville to host the Clinic Bowl. Geographically, Murfreesboro and Cookeville will continue to be the most friendly locations.

Agreed. Not fair to force a 400 mile road trip for state champ game against hometown team.
e.g. Memphis University School vs. somebody from Knox/Chatt.
The COEXIST bumper sticker is ridiculous. How are people supposed to get along when one side is flying planes into tall buildings or wearing sweater vests full of C4 and nails? The faiths are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.
I always liked Murfreesboro for those games
haven’t been to one in Cookeville yet…but I still think rotating the games between Memphis, Nashville/Murfreesboro, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville would be cool.

Now Rotating isn't a bad idea.
I think they are trying to develop a “following” by having it centrally located and a “tradition” for the area (like Oklahoma and the College World Series). Not sure I buy that, but…

the Village of Cooke! Hub City!
my hometown! would they play at Tenn. Tech? if memory serves, that field is much more kind than the parking lot. it has been thirty years since i’ve been on it.

Ahh, Negatory, Red Rider
We had turf from 1968 until 1994. It wasn’t all that great. Admittedly, grassy turf didn’t really exist then, and the old Tartan Turf surface was pretty much just a gigantic welcome mat glued to the floor, but I prefer grass.
I have always been impressed with the job that Bobby Campbell and the grounds staff have done to keep the filed looking great. I say stick with the real stuff…

^ Yep
Absolutely agree. I love Dooley, but in my mind, turf is verboten.
This is the part
where Dooley figures out he can’t say anything in public without all of us joining in on the conversation.
Though to be honest, I hope he doesn't figure that out for a while yet.
He’s not nearly the conversation piece that Kiffin was, so any freebies are much appreciated.

Unless he can show that we'd have fewer injuries or reduce spending....
More Neyland events (multi-purpose) might raise revenues…
But, I’m generally with everyone providing the big Raspberry on this one… (cue the image..)

It's bad enough they did away with the hedges
switching to turf would be terrible! I’ve played on the stuff…. I like grass a lot better
Maybe ....
Maybe he simply misspoke? Perhaps he was referring to the SYMPATHETIC TURF of Neyland Stadium. You know, where the horizon is orange in all directions? Hmm? Yes? Please?

BREAKING NEWS: Jusin WIlcox is Behind the New Turf Idea
Justin is from Boise State where they have that ridiculous blue field. He is glad to be a Vol but had a momentary bit of nostalgia. In one of their punchy late night meetings, he suggested similar Synthetic Turf to Dooley. Dooley had been doing too much Caravaning and snapped momentarily as he agreed to float a trial balloon to the Vol Faithful.
Sneaking suspicion that they wanted BRIGHT ORANGE TURF to rival the Boise State Smurf Turf.
The story behind the story…. remember you heard it here first.

Maybe instead of black jerseys, we could go with black turf.

I sense an RTT expose on this issue, since Hamilton is clearly engaged in a cover-up?

Not Sure?
Have to think on it a while. Also the Karst Topograpy that exist under the Stadium could hamper the installation……“NOT SURE”
