BlogPoll Preseason Draft
Ok, I'm later than intended on this, but after having gone through the comments from a couple weeks ago, here is where my preseason ballot stands:
- Alabama
- Boise State
- Oklahoma
- Ohio State
- Texas
- Florida
- TCU
- Iowa
- Oregon
- USC
- Virginia Tech
- Miami
- Auburn
- Nebraska
- Georgia
- FSU
- Utah
- Pitt
- Washington
- Georgia Tech
- Clemson
- Arkansas
- Penn State
- Texas A&M
- Wisconsin
- South Carolina (if we spike the younger USC)
And keep in mind that I'm terrible at these things, so I'm willing to correct things. I do like having Boise high, considering how many returning players they have and how well disciplined that team can be.
This thing's due Monday at 10, so there's no real rush. But I'd like to have it in before the weekend so I can forget about it. And speaking of forgetting: when we do this again for the first week's poll, it'll be as if the preseason poll never existed.

D----t, will you people stop with the ranking of South Carolina!
This never ends well for us …
Team Speed Kills. All SEC, all the time.
Put South Carolina at 19

Generally speaking:
- I’d give GT more credit and FSU less credit.
- I’m wondering if there’s an argument against ranking USC at all due to probation (not that I care).
Other than that, I’d probably bump (t)OSU to 3. But whatever, it’s not like I care heavily about that.

LSU...
…has too much talent not to be ranked. They are ahead of GA and Auburn on my list.
Vinnie Testaverde is always remembered for Tennessee kicking his ass.
I'd put UNC at 26
over South Carolina.

I will give my North Carolina for Tennessee Today. Apparently.
Yeah
IIRC, UNC has a pretty senior-laden team this year, and they were half decent last year.

Leave 'em off.
Wouldn’t want Tennessee to dodge a ranked team.

Thoughts...
Not understanding the dramatic drop for Cincinnati.
I like having LSU unranked, think this is the year the bottom falls out for Les Miles.
Oklahoma is WAAAAAAY too high, this is a team coming off 5 losses who lost a billion 1st round picks.
Don’t get the love affair with Miami either, think their record is overinflated… all their wins came over teams with severe problems last season.
Don’t see a huge improvement from USC either, this is a team who finished a game above .500 in the Pac-10.
On that same note, I like Stanford to improve even with the loss of Gerhard… plus getting USC, Oregon State, and Arizona at home. I just think Harbaugh is that good.
I understand the viewpoint...
but I think the expectation for Cincinnati to fall off is a bias against their program for being a historical cupcake justified after the fact by Coach Kelly’s absence…
but no matter what, they were 12-0 going into their bowl game… and I’m not used to seeing 12-1 BCS teams fall out of the top 25 in the offseason.
Also...
Zach Collaros takes over at QB for Tony Pike, and was extremely good last season.
75% Completion, 1432 YDS, 10 TD, 2 INT, 344 YDS Rushing, 6 YPC, 4 RTD
They also return their leading rusher, #2, 3, and 4 receivers, 3/5 of their starting OL(including two All-BE players), and their all world DT.
Butch Jones did maintain what Kelly did at Central Michigan by winning their division 2 of 3 years, and going 11-2(8-0) his last season there… so I’m sure he isn’t going to be another Greg Robinson or Steve Kragthorpe.
Should Alabama be ranked #1?
Don’t get me wrong, I know they’ll probably be really good (certainly on offense), but with their questions on defense (just inexperience, I know) are they a #1 team? Their special teams are an issue too, right? I’m inclined to give Florida the edge on them.

Then again, I was shocked at their preseason ranking last year because they had a new QB, so what do I know.
I should do like Costanza and choose the opposite of what my instincts tell me.

For what it's worth.........
I’d consider replacing South Carolina with LSU and Cincinnati should take A & M’s spot.
I think Arkansas and Wisconsin should be moved up a few spots, while Ga. Tech should be lower ranked.
My heart tells me to move So. Cal. down……but realistically your top 10 is spot on.
Again, for what it’s worth, I ended up #7 overall in last year’s RTT College Pick’em contest——-which means that at least 6 members are better at this than I am. Weigh my suggestions accordingly.
