Around SB Nation's college blogs today:
- In advance of the opening weekend's marquee game -- Labor Day's matchup between Boise St. and Virginia Tech -- Gobbler Country has your Game Guide and notes that Hokies QB Tyrod Taylor is drawing comparisons to Michael Vick. You know, in a good way. Meanwhile, Broncos blog OBNUG is making the case for and against this game being the biggest game in the history of Boise St. football.

Boise earns respect, gets the win, and a shot at their forst meeting with Bama in a national
title game all in one week. Hey, why not go for broke!

Also, the Tyrod comparison...
..ridiculous.
Michael Vick didn’t take 3 years to figure out how to read a defense. He showed up on campus and started whooping tail.
...just apologize for not thanking me.
I have a terrible feeling...
that Boise is going to beat Virginia Tech like a red headed stepchild…
but inexplicably lose their first conference game in years… probably at Nevada in the next to last game.
If Virginia Tech plays their typical game
they’re going to win. I’m not at all convinced that Boise can stop Ryan Williams & Darren Evans if VT just gives it to them 50 times.
Correction...
If Virginia Tech plays well, they will win.
If they play typical, they can arbitrarily lose to anyone… and also arbitrarily beat anyone.
We have Boise's defensive coordinator
VTech by 30.

Their defense has had a very good preseason - both spring and fall.
I hear the argument, but I want to see how things go under the new guy before I assume too much.

Ehhhh.......I am confident that we are finally gonna get rid of Boise.
Everybody needs to quit drinking the Boise kool aid. I can’t wait for them to go away.

Understood.
My biggest complaint with Boise is the way the media incessantly fawns over their ‘underdog’ role. Outside the mediagasm, though, they’re one of the most enjoyable teams to watch (IMO). They always play with a lot of discipline and precision
But the media seriously needs to let go of the ‘07 Fiesta Bowl. Great game, but we’re a few years removed from that team now.

Total honesty:
That bowl game is the only one I have on my iPod. I still watch it on occasion just because it was some extremely good football. And now that Wilcox is here, it’s worth twice as much. ;-) But (a) the announcers are unbelievably annoying and (b) Boise was the better team that day. For the former, let’s just say that during the overtime, the only thing the announcers could talk about was having a playoff. For the latter, OU had 15 of their regulation time points due to a punt that bounced into a Boise blocker (who was fully engaged in a block and couldn’t avoid it) and the only bad decision that Zabranski made all game long. 14 more points came at the end of the game and in overtime because Boise’s defense finally tired out.
But again, that was ’07.
And that game absolutely thrills me for what Wilcox can bring to the table for UT.
I’m rapidly learning to watch games without sound, though. I can’t stand it when the announcers auto-meme themselves into oblivion, be it ‘underdog’, ‘BCS/playoff’, ‘Heisman’, or whatever.
